ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

so, just this week i had a minor crash, with road rash on both elbows, a badly bruised thumb, and a few road rash's to the hips. $250 later my parents have just told me they dont want me to longboard again, because every time i go out skating they sit at home waiting for a call from someone, that Daniel (me) is in an ambulance, which of course is quite a shock, even though its never happened. after every session i come home with a few new wounds, and they're quite fed up with it. I am however getting better are longboarding and coming home with very few grazes each week.

I would like some help on how to convince my parents on how to get me back into the skating world.
(yes i wear all padding wherever i can, except elbow guards, but gonna invest in some when and if i come back to longboarding)

if your parents are worried about every little graze, just buy leathers to use whenever you freeride...

i dont exactly have that sort of money, but thats what i also said to them, if i had the money, i'd buy leathers to protect my skin'

just pick up some cheap wrecked ones. but seriously with summer coming your going to be stinking hot in leathers for a local freeride. get some of these https://www.cambriabike.com/shopexd.asp?id=91680 and learn how to fall so you fall on your knee pads and gloves.

yeah i know how to fall properly on my knee pads and gloves, just whenever i fall its like really sudden, i know that sounds stupid, but like, just the other week, i was skating down our local hill and i clipped the edge of the road, cause it was quite narrow, and i wasnt expecting it, like when you get wobbles you kinda expect falling off so your ready for it, cause i wasnt ready, i couldnt get full strength in my arms, usually when i fall, i fall onto gloves + knee pads, so they take all the beating, but ocassionally i fall onto my skin, and thats when it tears my skin up. as for that padding, i'd prefer not that, i'd just prefer some pointers on what to say to my parents and shit like that. i said i'd wear elbow guards and shit, but yeah

grazes each week?????

While that is happening you have no chance!

not exactly grazes each week, but majority of them, im only just a beginner and learning all the slides and stuff

grazes are part of learning to slide but if allot of em are coming from unexpected crashes, mabs your skating a bit to far above your ability! not saying to push yourself! just chill a little bit.

other option is just not tell your olds your going skating! tell em your going knitting

yeah, grazes do happen, i try telling my parents that but it wont work \:

my mate offered me, for $10 he'd write me an essay that i can give to my parents. im fairly happy with that.

Set fire to them.

i had a MAJOR crash, my parents DID get the phone call saying i was in liverpool hospital emergency ward, and for a long time they said im never skating again... but 8 months later ive been skating sinse i could walk again and they hav semi come around... you realy hav to just do it regaurdless of what they say and show them how passionate about it u are, otherwise they just think its a fase thats dangerous and they dont want you hurt...

if you really love skateboarding, just keep skateboarding.

If the police cant stop you with the threat of the law and fines, neither can your folks... No one can ever stop you from skateboarding...

If someone tells you to stop skateboarding, ignore them and continue skateboarding. No one can stop you, ever... So dont let them. Just keep skating regardless of what anyone says. Just make sure you do it safely and do it smart, that way no one can ever get the better of you.

Shred til your dead

Tell em about all your mates injuries playing football, tell em about the pedestrian that got fucked up by a bike rider just walking down the footpath one day, tell her how many cyclists end up in hospital each year, how many kids hurt themselves in the playground at school, at karate and at basketball.

Tell your parents that they are becoming old and exactly what is wrong with Australia and most other Western countries, the fact that they wanna bubble wrap everything and disinfect it to. It's pathetic, and you should save them before it's to late.

Maybe just tell em the first bit though and then disregard their answer all together and keep skating! Hell, when I was your age I was already stealing my old mans car every night. You don't even have the bollocks to ride our board! Grow some!
