Is there any other purpouse for skins other than for wearing under leathers when it comes to skating? I just noticed pictures and was at the outlaw and people seemed to be wearing them for slalom and just sliding. Is there any purpouse in that or are they just wearing them in case they wanna put on some leathers?

hey so i was just in big w picking some bondage gear and weapons of mass destruction as one does. and i strolled past slazenger compression tights called something or other sporty sounding. but basicly same stuff as skins only $40 a pair though. cheap as.
Is that $40 for the top and the bottom.
Good find. Quick googling reveals this:

(one issue - they don't have long-sleeve tops)

There's another brand called 2XU, but their long sleeve tops are $110:

$40 each. sorry.
I got my top for sunscreen protection, and more recentlt got some strides so I can use em for oz-tag on cold winter nights.
They do keep you warm but at the same time you get the occasional cold surge. It's weird. One minute you're warm then for just a brief moment you freeze then warm up again.
They work extremely well at wicking away sweat which cools you down well in summer, but can be nasty when its cold.
Once you get some more clothes on top they definately keep you warmer than without tights.

okay because of the compression they can actually improve muscle recovery time, helping the micro tears heal quicker (very good as long as you are stretching after a session to make sure the fibres are mending flat not corrugated and forming scar tissue) I'll stop now as a sports therapist I would go on all night. In short yes they are good, bloody expensive just because they have "skins" written on them and yes search out cheaper alternatives.

That cold surge is this wicking fitz, everytime it sucks a bag full off your legs then dumps it on the outside and spreads it out..... boooom cold chill.

The compression may help somewhat in recovery but in terms of delaying the onset of lactic buildup it does squat for skating, it may help on a 6hr ultra marathon where your main propulsion is you muscles. But the so-called independent testing is incredibly limited. the theory is good but the actual results are minor. However they're awesome for mobility under leathers.

On a side note the company Skins got in trouble with the ACCC recently by making false claims that a number of elite sportspeople voluntarily chose to wear the product for a number of health reasons. The ACCC were concerned about false advertising as all the elite sportspeople were individually approached by the company and paid to do so.
i could be way off with this but do skins help with friction burns i never tested it but was just wondering cause ive had a fair few burns slash grases from crashes and alot of time the burns have been from my shorts of jeans rubbing on my skin while im sliding to a stop. just been thinking seeing as tho there so tight your cloths of leathers would rub on them instead of your skin
They should help if you get around in loose leathers. I've had a few crashes and have yet to graze myself with skins on under leathers. The only time I've seen anyone get a good graze with them on is when the rd gets all the way through the leather and rips the skins open.
