Road Rash Treatment
I may have discovered the best way to deal with road rash. It's a product called either Tegaderm or IV3000 and it's a very thin transparent membrane that you place directly over the wound. You leave it on for up to a week, and it's waterproof and you can shower in it etc.
It keeps the wound moist so it doesn't form a scab. Road cyclists use it (they have long and extensive experience with road rash).
If you buy it from the chemist it's very expensive (about $5 for one piece), but a pack of 100 costs about $100. I've found myself a supply and am currently testing it out. So far so good.

yeah bugs, solu-gel is also a similar thing but you have to keep it covered all the time and change the gel every 24hrs. They use it for burns. Heals you up real fast and no scab...genius, it's like skin in a tube.

Thanks Phil, interesting. Wound care specialist - you're the guy who knows this stuff I guess. Most of the recommendations on the web are for Tegaderm, but it's IV3000 that I've got a deal on. I can't see any pink strips on the side though.
At the hospital they put that Opsite stuff on me - it was like a patch of IV3000 but with a gauze-type pad stuck in the middle of it.

Bugs the idea is not to crash so you dont have to use anything but champers on the podium!
Disclaimer, i aint no trained medic but,
After 44 years of cycling, motorbikes and now skating i've been the recipient of plenty of RR, (chicks dig scars)
i use opsite flexigrid with either bepanthan or betedine underneath to keep it juicy.
Like you said its pretty expensive, and getting bits big enough is sometimes difficult,
so you can go the cheap and large way and use glad wrap, (ask any tattooist) and secure it with a good quality
paper tape. Paper tapes not flexible or waterproof tho.

The bark loss isn't too bad, but the brain cells are a bit of a worry. As for training for BtB, it's made me realise I may have been a bit overconfident. Need to develop my skills a bit more.

basically when i get some serious road rash, i wash thoroughly wash it with soapy water (usually under the shower) then stick Mefix over the top. the best thing about it is you don't have to keep changing over the dressings. i just leave it on until it either heals up (scab starts to go all crusty underneath) or it peels off on its own.

Someone suggested to me at MOTH honey on road rash is great. I reckon it was the kewl bloke from TaSSIE whos name escaped me.
