Sue, that's quite a mischaracterisation of what actually occurred. Haggy was just a competitor at this event - he wasn't an organiser, wasn't a volunteer, and had no role at all other than to race. He was dragged into a discussion with Riff and Sakamoto on Friday evening, and went along with their decision to ban Trav. What else could he do - it wasn't his event, he had no power, and he'd just witnessed an unprovoked violent assault against a friend.

Regardless, the banning of Trav wasn't the controversial part of the weekend. The main controversy from that Friday night was the unprovoked violent assault on a totally innocent Jacko, and Sakamoto's "peace speech" which turned into a lengthy and completely absurd character assassination of Trav for what was in reality a minor incident. People didn't speak up for Trav at that meeting because their jaws were all on the floor, plus the violence on display silenced any possibility for reasonable discussion. But I think all the people wearing Heelside T-shirts over the next two days showed the support for Trav.

...The fact is it was Haggy, president of ASRA and IGSA rep in Australia who suggested banning trav, and Tim, the race organizer agreed. Reason, it put the race in jeopardy with local police.
I was in the rider meeting. Hop was
not. Not one person in the room
spoke up in support of Trav. Haggy stood on stage with Tim and Sakamoto, all united in banning Trav.
I am GSE, not one person came to me to discuss this issue. I am more than happy to speak with you in person or on the phone. PM me with your details
That's because every time we speak to GSE all we hear is a steaming pile of turd. Try being honest with us and maybe we will stop thinking you are a bunch of cunts. This event was built off a solid foundation of lies. Fuck GSE, I spent  hundreds of dollars ,that should have gone towards my mortgage, on this weekend to have only 5 runs on the hill, and the hill was fucked anyway!

Lucky I skated some real hills this arvo instead of going to preso.

Very Very disapointing weekend.

As a skater and a luger I felt like a lepper not wanted in both camps.

A bit of diplamacy and private discussion on Friday night could of avoided alot of the drama

Lugers lets just keep driving that wedge in. Well brake off soon and can slowly die!

I like most of you guys but would rather Skate with the boys any day

What was ASRA's involvement in the event?

So Haggy had no power in the situation whatsoever?

So Trav coped a ban for free riding a public hill that was not in event mode?

So its ok to pysicaly assalt someone?

From ASRA

Hi Greg! ASRA originally had no role in this race, but Riff's plans for getting a timing system all fell through at the last minute just as ASRA's new timing system arrived, so we volunteered to step in to do the timed qualifiers on Saturday. Haggy was racing so the timing was done by myself, Robbo and Chris S.  We had no other involvement in the event. We volunteered because we wanted the event to succeed (unfortunately we had problems with our new, unfamiliar timer, so the timing wasn't a great success).

As for your other questions,

2. No formal power, only his Norwegian charm,

3. Trav arranged a small race on a public hill an hour away, and was banned for that, and

4. Obviously no, although I guess that's not so obvious to everybody.

Good to hear your professionalism getting in the way of a good argument Colin.

Sounds like "downhill" has taken on a new meaning for the hoizontal slappers. You kind of only get one chance at those deals, so its a shame to build up a rep then burn the beings that have supported them. It appears that they are loosing support rapidly from the skaters and thats going to hurt them down the track.

I guess there is an slight argument on both sides of the fence but crap actions like that has to be sorted out pronto in a very professional manner, its totally clear that this is not the case. Especially from a mob that call themselves an event company that premote safe training for gromets. They really need to buck-up!

I personally hope GSE can turn this around and eradicate all the negatives within. Even from day one ASRA has always tryed to work in with the Lugers but things just dont seem to change do they? Are they a different breed of being or something? They look to have done a lot of work to get to where they are now.

Those kind of events arnt that hard to organize, you can chuck one together in your lunch break but, sacrificing safety for scenery is inane.

Was there a policy issued through ASRA?

DUDE, they wouldnt even give Tom a shirt because he was a standup.
cunts are filthy on the shit talk
Bomb the snowies < Trav

What is it with gravity sports and politics recently? I'm in victoria and all of our events are pretty much just hanging out and racing with mates, there might be personal differences at times but that never gets in the way of racing and having fun. The more of these stories I read the less I want to;

a) travel interstate to compete in events where you can get recognition as a racer and

b) organise an event in victoria to get all the interstate riders down and have fun with people who share my passion.

Maybe I'll just ride my local hills and streets were at least i know i'll get a smile and wave from any fellow gravity rider instead of some bullshit about riding my skateboard in a way or a place that they don't approve of.

what?

is GSE organising BTB on the 14-15th of april????

bloody hope not!

Wow!! this is better than daytime TV.

Skating with your mates is the most purist forms of skateboard enjoyment, hands down! No one will be able to duplicate or take away from you. Outlaw gatherings is still considered having fun with your mates as far as im concerned. There always seems to be an added edge of excitement.

Its just that when one desides to throw on an above board event, there should be nothing else involved but profesionalism. Yeh, the odd hurdle will pop up from time to time and thats all part of the process and riders will understand this. Small comps have some very good benefits and run smoothly will often leave you buzzing days later.

I do love comps and catching up with old friends but IId rather skate with my mates anyday. I bet the boys had a lot more fun 1k away.
