ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Anyone interested in a Hamilton Island Skate Comp??

Just puting it out there at the moment.

A few of us guys up this way have been tossing the idea around for about a year now,

It has a nice hill with 2 possibly 3 runs on it, an airport that guys from sydney can catch direct flights to, at cheap prices.

It is still just a pipe dream at the moment with things like accommodation to sourced and picking a date, transport etc, etc.

If we get enough response we will make a move to getting it up and going.

So let us know what you think guys, gals, skaters, lugers,Gbikers, and inliners

The place has hills with out doubt, i remember being there back about 3-4 years ago and it having some stuff that looked very very skateable, defs could end up being a great event if you can pull it off
do it, I will take the whole family for a holiday at the same time.

that'd be a sick run, super fast

there's also some steep runs going down from the lookout towards the qualia resort

i'd be interested, especially if it was a legit race.

you don't see it in that video above, but there is one run that would be awesome.

it would be very fast and would require some braking especially coming into that bottom lefty. if that were to be the run you would get a lot of interest and it would easily be one of the best races/events in Australia.

i remember having a lot of fun on the golf buggy's around the island when i was there 4 years ago, especially on that hill.

to save on cost and to help market the event for Hamilton Island's benefit you'd have to do it at a time of year when Hamilton Island is quietest.

i reckon they would be all for the event though, especially during their off peak. it means serious $ for the Island if they get a bunch of extreme sportsmen/women staying there for a few days.

Plus we would pretty much have the whole Island to ourselves. IF IT WERE A DECENT SIZED EVENT IT WOULD EASILY RIVAL NEWTONS!

fuck yeah!!! HYPE HYPE HYPE, skate island / skaters paradise would be radical.

I second Leighs last comment.

look it at this way..... its a sick looking hill on a beautiful island that is often filled with hot tourist's walking around in bikini's if the beer was cheap it would be heaven
I'd be happy to pencil another legit race into my year

you would have to talk to the island coordinators and upper management, there'd be next to no chance of this happening unless you could get it done at the end of summer. if you are staff there all you'd need is two warnings and you are gone if you are just skating around or caught organising any shit like this without proper authority.

if you were staying there and neglected to listen to them after several warnings they will boot you off the island.

i know the food & beverage manager and one of the upper management staff of the island, they'd take the whole idea into consideration, but planning, safety(of riders and residents), schedules and everything else would be upto the  organisers, and if everything isnt air tight and legit they wont approve anything... good luck!

oh for sure, it would have to be a proper legit, well organised event.

Dermott, the run I posted you could hit 70, maybe 80k's on and you'd possibly have to pull off a few slides before corners. its not a straight tuck fest like the hill climb.

BUMP!!!
dude hilclimb is a lot of tucking thru sweepers at 50-60klm/hr....think these are faster...this hill is different entirely...

This would be off the hook! Awesome spot for racing and partying but as others have said the logistics could be a hurdle. BUT if that didnt work there are some wild suburban runs up above Airlie Beach which would be a shit load easier when it comes to transportation and the like.

I'll echo it again Shane, Build It And They Will Come!!

DO IT!
