ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

hey guess what, pie is now a NO-GO ZONE! yup thats right, you guys blew it!

BenBro, Gabe and myself were the first to skate that hill well over a year ago, and since then we have taken several crew to this hill. The first only time we have been hassled by coppers there was first time we ever skated it, mainly because we were there for at least 4 hours sessioning the shit out of it, and eventually a copper just happened to drive by. He was cool however, he was just doing his job and politely told us to move on, and that was after a 20 min conversation about downhill skateboarding and how interesting it was.

Luca and i went there yesterday and we didnt even get a chance to get our boards out of the car before a Policeman rocked up on his bike and went ape shit at us, told us he was going to fine us, take our boards, take our phones, take our cameras, take our licenses and throw us in jail. He was one angry copper. Now i know my rights and i know he can't take any of our stuff so to save argument we smiled, nodded and were on our merry way.

Now the thing that pisses me off, is how much of an asshole he was. He was such an asshole not because he was born that way, but because he told us he has gone through this same routine so many times lately, and has stopped more than 4 groups of skaters in the past month! None of the crew who actually skate that hill regularly have been there in a while due to other things like competitions (or injuries) and the first time we actually rock up to OUR LOCAL we get booted before a run... When you skate a road like Pie in the Sky, you need to be as fast as, if not FASTER than the traffic. The hill is not steep, which makes it good for beginners in some sense but then again it is a highway, and there is traffic. If you are slow, and look slow, and holding up traffic people get the shits and call the cops. When there is a group of 3-7 kids rolling down the hill slow as fuck it does not look good at all, and the first thing people do is call the cops.

The sydney boys and myself have been skating at this spot for a long time, and barely get hassled by anyone at all. When we ride, we ride fast, get in, get out and dont get caught. The only people that stop us are the people who are interested in what we are doing and are super stoked. Now that theres so many grommets stinking up the place it has become a hotspot for the police, and the hills is ruined.

So from now on, no one is to go to this hill. If you want to skate it, ask us and we might take you there. But for all those who are keen to start bombing hills and what not, dont just rock up to a highway and think all will be good, coz it wont, and your the sort of people who are ruining it for the rest of us.

looks personally as a grom, i love the idea of being able to et the chance to shred with you guys, but yer i know i still need too brush up my skills, thats y i agree with some of the other guys here that me should get maybe a small group out every weekend or so skating with the bigger better guys, and letting all the knowledge the skills, and etiquette of those goes get drilled into the younger guys. Eventually we will get more people with much better skills, and etiquette.

If it keeps going on where the older guys only skate with the one group of groms and then all the other just have to try and catch up by themselves that is where 'us groms' are gonna be causing all the hassle and stress that you pro's are talking about.

Guys, I think everyone needs to take a step back here. We're all fighting amongst ourselves which is completely counter productive. This seems to be a whole bunch of finger pointing and no blame-taking. I'd just like to say that anyone who skates a hill increases the heat on it, if you "pro's" (sorry to use what seems like an insult in this context) skate a hill at or above the speed limit, there's a chance that a tosser will ring up and scream at the police that there's "skateboarding hooligans speeding recklessly down a hill with no protection, while cutting lanes"

People prey on the minority. Sure, Groms sessioning a corner over and over will attract more heat, but no one here is completely in the clear. I understand that you've been sessioning these hills for years? without trouble from police but it's only a matter of time before you get caught as with anything illegal.

What i'm really trying to say is. Merry Christmas guys, have a great day, spend time with your family and/or loved ones and forget about this until another day when everyone has had time to think and cool off.

Wow...

I think everyone needs to take a step back, chill,  and see the other side here. Yes you may have skated that run properly for years and are extremely protective of it, but half of these groms wouldn't even know of ASRA or the etiquette and are just trying to enjoy their new sport, even if out of their depth. Out of the ~15 people I know that skate regularly, only 1 knows about ASRA and has ever been to bombsquad. It is very elitist and non-conducive view to sit there and say 'No, that's OUR road and you can't skate there because you will mess it up for us pros', and it wont stop the problem people anyway. Perhaps it would be better to approach groms you see on 'your' spot and ask them politely if they might want to come back later after attending some skill sessions, or offer to show them some other spots to practice on instead of just raging at them.

Older guys should always take time to ride with the younger or newer people. Not always possible but as often as possible, spread the stoke!

We have done that in Radelaide Lombard. I have said it a few times. If Hayward or Corkscrew get ruined I will not be riding with anyone but Leigh, Mark, Bow and Dre and I will call he cops myself if I find anyone else longboarding my spots. Hope it doesn't come to that and w can invite a few younger fellas out each weekend to ride with us and with car. From what I understand you are a pretty rad skater anyway Laurence, if people are capable of skating spots quietly, quickly and responsibly then go for it! Power to ya!

surfing has the same understanding, if your riding outside of your back yard then you pay your respects to the locals and everything is sweet. Longboarding is no different, its the same with running outlaws, you go ask the crew that live around that hill and sesh it more then you if its cool if you run something there. Respect the older crew and the locals at the hills your riding or fuck off!

The point I was trying to make is that the people that would skate there without asking first are the ones who wouldn't know any of this site, the people who live and skate locally or the general etiquette involved. No use ranting and raging about these people as it won't help anyone, would be better to instruct them about the etiquette and help them learn, perhaps instead of telling them to fuck off.

I agree with jordan in many ways. Its a growing sports and kids a gonna skate these hills. these is no way of stoping them. getting all angry and worked up about it isn't gonna help. you need to educate them, teach them, help them to know how to skate right and when to skate, not just tell them to fuck off. most of the kids who are ruining it wouldn't be on ASRA or they would know better. you act like you own the hill, you dont. noone owns it, people are always looking for new spots, and its not hard to get on google maps and look. if you didn't find it. eventually someone els would have.

skaters gonna skate just like haters gonna hate.

wow... so much bitching still goes on...

anyway. So last time i was there, i saw two groms hanging out at the pie shop trying to avoid the police that had already busted them (and in turn busted us when we showed up). So what do we do? we go and say g'day to the fellas. Turns out they were cool guys, just wanting to have a shred. thats fine. they had no idea what the situation was like with the police. thats fine. so we educated them, had a chat and hung out for a few minutes. i told em the road is a hot spot and theres a CERTAIN WAY you have to skate it. they understood and i said next time you wanna skate it, ask us, we will take you and will show you the way to NOT get caught and ride it safely.

THIS IS THE POINT ALL YOU BITCHING WHINERS ARE MISSING HERE.

a road like this requires a certain amount of etiquette for it to work! you cant just show up and think everything will be cool! this is the main reason im telling people to NOT go here, is because they rock up, hang around and get busted, every single time. there is a certain amount of respect required to keep a spot like this skateable. if i see kids there that dont know the way i wont go up and tell em to fuck off, i may sound assertive and let em know whats up but at least i'll invite them back to shred it propperly.

now everyone go and change your tampons and have a merry fucken christmas
