ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Would anyone be willing to come to Newcastle for a day in the school holidays after Christmas to teach a bunch of Groms about footbreaking, shutdown slides, wearing safety gear, etc. Preferably someone young, say late teens to early twenties, that is very good and can impress so they get the groms attention?

I am sure I could get you pay for the day from all the parents chipping in and provide food and drink, and pick up and drop back from say as far as North Sydney.

Whoever is puting their hand up would have to get the approval from members from this site as to their ability.

Cheers
BJ

ok let me kno a day, a time and the location and i'll be there.....the new subdivision you are talking about sounds perfect.
as soon as a date is set ill start organizing some things......rough estimate of number attending would be good also.
send me a pm about the details if needed BJ.....cheers
Thanks Benbro, Phil and Brad.

It is fantastic of you guys to help me out.

Brad. Have you seen the estate at Cardiff I am talking about? I would like your opinion seen as you may be closer than Benbro. If it is not OK or you have somewhere better, let me know.

Phil. Thanks for the offer of the BBQ. We will talk later about it.

I will be sending a letter, won't include date or site yet, to all of my sons mates to let them know about the day. I want to do this asap so that they can get Santa to bring them any gear they need for the day. I will be including the Hop Shop number on the letter.

Thanks again.
Cardiff ? you mean edgeworth on the way up to Sugarloaf ?? yep nice and clean road not much gradient should work ok
front side has MINIMAL flat stopping area before interection (FENCE ) Back side might be good ?? NO CARS IS GOOD !!! PLENTY of little roads out there !! SEE how the level of riding is and go from there !!!
Try to get to Kincumber for the drain ride and meet the crew !!! Cheers
This really needs to be filmed so all noobs and groms can benefit in the future.
I know where you are talking about.
But I am talking about Cardiff. End of Munibung Rd. Old pasminco site. Steeper than Edgeworth. About 100m of flat road at bottom of hills of a teardrop shaped road.
Would love to come to Kincumber, but have family coming up from south coast.

When we get a date for this, can it be added as an event? I have already had 1 request from someone to attend. Might end up being bigger than I expected.
Should I get my son to get everyone to pass it on? Or is this asking for trouble?

Sure. Just go to the "Events" page and click "Add Event".

On an aside to this discussion...this is great...grassroots action!
I cant help but think that this is stuff that sba gets money to support and promote across australia.
Sba can accredit skate coaches in australia, and insure coaching clinics (problem would be they prob wouldnt support clinincs on open roads etc)
They will run an accreditation for skate coaches if you can get a group of 10 participants. I reckon my work would pay for me to do it if 9 others want to do it. The first specific longboard coaches? Maybe, thinking bigger picture councils concerned about dangerous longboarders in their community can get some safety concious experienced coaches to their town to run workshops on safe and healthy skateboarding. Similar to the programs being run in skateparks.
