Hells yeahh!!

Lets get this shit happening..
Definitly need to get something going. Will need to make it as official and safe as possible though with all this attention.
Easter anyone???
Is there anything you need me to do matty. Btw, if we need transportation of hay bales or something. My uncle owns a trucking/moving company and would probably give us bare minimum price.
getting a race there isnt as simple as putting up a date and saying its on... as matt said it will be at least 6-12 months UNTILL we can start thinking about dates for the race... its a long a grueling process to get a race happening... Newtons playground took 2 years to get happening. And i know that with the growth of the sport the organization of races will speed up a bit just be prepared that it will still be a long process to get a race happening here. It can be done, and it will be done, dont worry about that, but what some dont know is the long and grueling hours of commitment it will take to get this off the ground.
So i guess what im saying is the more people helping the better, so maybe some meetings should be called and start assigning jobs to help out with this process, and dont be afraid to ask members of ASRA for guidance on how to get races happening, but one thing you have to remember is you cant just say "oh lets get a race happening ASRA you do it." coz that just wont happen. There are a lot of people who will be more than happy to help up just keep this forum up in the air and keep the comments coming.
It will happen you just need 100% commitment
if it was going to happen...i'd be keen to come out and czech it out.
So sick cant wait im sure we will be able to get a race middle next year or late next year Because they shut the road off every second week nearly for car events so we could ask them if we could do it straight after one of those events.

The Willunga crew are looking and getting some more publicity out there we are looking into writing a article in some of the local papers because our crew is looking for support from local shops and stuff
Hey Matt
Definately and also a proper Speedboard cant wait found a few place that might be keen any ideas of how to approach them
how did your talk go yesterday anyway i havent heard yet
and your balls
Its seems like you guys have a lot more issue with your council than what we do up here.
Getting a road closed in townsville took us a little talking back and forward from the council but managed to get it sorted in a month. The thing that took the longest is waiting for the monthly council meeting to come around as we had just missed one. Then we had to organise the signage, for the road barriers and road closure notices, and also put the notice in the local newspaper as well.

Also, if you can get in with the local car clubs that run events up the hill they can normally help you out and give you direction in organising an event.
Who to see - Police and Council Contacts
Who to notify - Whoever you'll piss off if you don't tell them you've closed the road. Cause you piss them off, then you won't get another road closure.
What you need to do - One you get road closure, the council will normally give you some guidance with who you need to notify and what services you should have on hand. Basically follow their rules and you'll get granted more road closures down the track.

Jacko is right, don't just ask the ASRA boys to organise an event for you, cause it won't happen, but ask them for help.
Give them time and they will help.

As far as sponsorship goes....
Does ASRA have a portfolio that riders looking to organise an event could pitch to potential sponsors?
hey Matty im a bit iffy about borrowing boards prefer to but my own because then i become one with the board like the sector nine i have now but thanks for the thought anyway well i will let you know what happens with the newspapers

cheers Dougie

This is what we need Dougie, Im pretty sure if you ring the local rag (messenger etc) and tell them that your lobbying for support for a downhill event they would be more than happy to do an article on you because its positive news for the community and shows that there are young people out there who want to do things that will benefit others.
Agree with Jacko's comment 100% - this will take time.

But thankfully there are a lot of us who are keen to get this race happening so i thought of an idea that i want to share and see who's keen.

Instead of talking on here about this race why don't all those that are interested in helping out catch up on a sat or sun, in person? I'll bring a note pad and a pen and we can then brainstorm as to who's done what so far and who's prepared to do the numerous tasks that are involved. That way everyone can be designated to a particular task (if they wish) and people wont be trying to do things that have already been done by someone else.

We could also see who's in what industry and who has connections that they can call upon for support such as what Nicko said about the transport etc. Leady has already spoken to the council so he's the man in regards to liaising with them (this way they only have to deal with one person), I have some ideas for fund raising to raise some cash to put this thing on so maybe we could get some people together to make up a bit of a sponsorship proposal and get that out there etc. To be quite honest i think we will have to find around $20-$30k minimum to hold a race at willy hill. We could probably do it cheaper on another hill out of the way but i think this hill has the potential to be up there with Newtons and Red Bull DHX. It will be on display for everyone to see so it will have to be schmicko.

Get my drift?

As they say "many hands make lite work"

What do you guys think about that, are those interested keen to catch up and nut out a plan of attack?
