ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

The Oz Outlaw Nationals are underway!
How will it work? - At suitable Outlaw races, all placings will be recorded and points awarded to be tallied up at the end of the season to determine an overall champion (much like CHC).

As the number of races in a season can vary, an individual's top 70% race points will be calculated. This is to allow for people not able to make it to every single race across the country.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of the season outlaw race, along with a trophy and bragging rights of National Outlaw Champion.
*Please note Oz Outlaw Nationals is not organising the races, just awarding the outcome from the collective of individually organised Outlaw Races.

Hey Jamie, you will have to put it like a day apart from Collingrove cup coz people will only want to travel once. And then that will take a day of free riding Radalade away?

yeah thats one thing i'm worried about. everyone coming down to Adelaide and missing out on the real hills. other option is having it around the time of Newtons. that way we'll get a few of the international crew interested.
so how many events are we hoping to run to decide the series?
4 or 5...more?...noosa,adelaide[outlaw] ,k valley and a pump station race,
yeah definately need some more races so i can get my name on that list!
as its the first ever year, i don't have high expectations of a massive number of races, just trying to get the ball rolling so next year or so the season will be a full on race season.

it is Outlaw races only at this stage. the main reason is to not impinge on ASRA's plans for a legit series that was discussed on the original OON ideas thread, which i think wasn't too far away.

While I don't mind that much whether legit or non legit events are included, I think the idea for this is to encourage more outlaw events. To fill up the roster people should aim to do that. For development purposes the key for this is aiming at grassroots gritty races and only outlaws are the place for this. For every 10 outlaws that occur a legit event gets spat out. Once enough legit races get out a Pro series occurs. You really need all those levels working to establish a race culture, that way each level feeds onto the next. In my mind the outlaw level is the most important as it tends to have the widest reach and creates the broadest participation and makes racing accessible to everyone in the country. Getting that culture up creates small legit events which turn into bigger legit events. The more legit they become the more restrictive they become for the grassroots but it does create a ladder for great riders and great organisers to step upto.

People shouldn't worry about filling the schedule with other events that at this stage are not included, this is about encouraging the scene to put on their own outlaw races else we get the issue of everyone waiting for others to do the hard work. We than get the existing problem of having a very big event and a couple of very small events.

I would prefer that Newton's always stands alone and there is a legit series of big races beneath that. Not because its IGSA but because it has a generally restrictive rego process so is not inclusive of all grassroots riders.

The whole series does not have to occur right now. This is about growing the scene, every big crew in each state should be looking at an absolute minimum of 1 race. NSW has already had 3, the QLD crew have put on a couple, SA has jammed down 1, TAS have one going, surely the VIC's and WA have one in them. This is just a test year to try to pull a few of these together, by the beginning of next year these different crews should be able to jam some advance dates together and BAM 6 race outlaw series already. If a few more crews get something happening we could have a 10 race schedule set by January.

Once this happens, riders will get better, organisers will aim higher, numbers will get bigger, exposure will be greater and BAM Pro series! Hopefully this builds up the skill level and a big crew of Aussies hits the world circuit with a set of baseball bats with maple leaves on them. Next thing we know we have a big summer series (Canadian winter) of cash races (outlaw and legit) and we draw in a big crew of maple syrup loving barefoot canuck's over here to sample our perfect weather before we send a big crew of beer drinking thong loving Aussies to Canada to pillage their Canadian season of bronzed moose head race trophies.

For all this to happen people have to put on their own outlaws and jams
I love what is happening in the scene at the moment, and I do like the stance Robbo is taking.

Just wondered if anyone else thinks that calling a series of races "Outlaws" is really asking for trouble.
Couldn't we refer to it as something else instead of Outlaw? Maybe "Grass Roots" racing?

Mystery Bus tours? :)
the prospect of including Collingrove in the Outlaw series was brought up at the last SAGRA meeting and no objections were raised as to useing the points in your series
2nd race of the series is planned to go down in 2 weeks time at the Pump Station.
over 48 races registered within 24 hours just from NSW !

diagnosis = WE NEED MORE OUTLAWS!!!

2 races isn't much of a season, so for everyone that will miss the 2nd race I encourage you to throw your own outlaw.
We have hundreds of skaters nation wide now, surely a few can get something together between newtons and April next year? (end of OON season)

get to it!
