Ok so i was wondering how you could make the best downhill truck without buying a $300 pair of precision trucks, when they wouldn't be used to there maximum of use. so i was wondering how you could make a steady dh truck using bits and pieces like base plates, hangers bushings, etc.

Hi kooky ohh yer i have bear trucks i just thought, there would be a more steady truck cheaper or even like a combination of different brands to make a cheap precision truck, but i guess when it's time to get a good pair of downhill trucks i will have to give you a yell.

umm there are plenty of dh trucks out there for under $300 I dont understand what you are try'n to do.
get some randals?
get randals with lower degree baseplates in the back and some harder bushings in the back

50/35
42/42
get a set of bear girzzlys with the 40 deg baseplates and flip both the hangers, then put two yellow khiro barrel bushings (top and bottom) in each truck... then tighten the back truck up a little more than the front.

instant downhill trucks for WAY less than $300
okk yep cheers Kristian. would bear hangers work on randal baseplates?
nup
look into Randal's baseplate options. the most common baseplates newcomers get are the 50 degree option that usually come stock with ur S9. that angle (depending on the board), is suited specifically for carving.
The higher the angle of the baseplate, the more it will turn/carve. so you want a baseplate that will have less angle like the 42 or 35 degree options.
It really depends on the board and its rider though, so its something you are going to have to test out urself. we can give you some guidance if you give us the specs of the board u are using for DH.
ohh okk thanks for the advice Kooky.

well thanks for the vote of confidence Joe, this is a compatibility chart there are some combo's there that may be of interest to you.
apart from that it'll take a trip to a good engineers shop :)

Kooky actually how much do your trucks cost?
well because of the slight wedge at the front you'll get more turn from the front than the back anyway.
you always want the back to be more stable than the front because thats where your wobble's come from. so in my opinion with that board, 35* back with 42* front would work a treat. but it would feel pretty dead without some decent bushings in them. Venoms are the best on the market, otherwise JimZ stims would work alright.
oh yep, you now your stuff Leigh, so bear grizzlys 852's hangers would not work with randal base plates is that right, so i would just need to customize a whole new randal set of trucks?

yeah they don't fit. just get urself the Randal baseplates and 180 hangers. if that turns out to be an expensive exercise, ur next best option is the 40* bears as Jacko said.
