Newton's Calls for Volunteers

The only thing better than smashing into a hay wall at 100km/h is watching it happen from 3 feet away. Without our volunteers events like this just would not happen. ASRA is calling out for volunteers to help make the action happen.

All Volunteers will be given VIP 3 day festival passes to the event and free camping accreditation. You will of course get a very warm fuzzy feeling by helping the guys at ASRA who are full-time volunteers help the Australian skateboard racing scene.

Whats ASRA needs:

Track marshals - to pick up the pieces when it all come unstuck
• Assisting the Discipline Stewards
• Report any rules infractions
• Use designated flags when necessary to signal riders of accidents, debris or other hazards
• Radio communication with stewards
• Removal of any debris and repair of haybale walls
• Track maintenance
• Assisting Starter and Finish Steward
• On-track commuting

Event staff - The run our check-in, manage communications and organise our riders on the hill
Required - Background or interest in event management and ability to yell at skateboarders with clear direction
• Assisting rider registration and check-in
• Handling accreditation
• Answering rider on-track inquiries
• Assisting the Chief scorer
• Assisting information dissemination

Video Crew - To film the live track video
Helpful but not essential - Background or experience in video production
• Cameraman
• Video switching
• technical crew
• Audio

Random people - to do all sorts or weird and wacky tasks all over the mountain
Required - ability to do everything and anything and do it quickly

What ASRA requires:

Newton's Nation is a 3 day festival so as a volunteer you will be required to be at the mountain on Thursday 25th for an induction and ready to go at 7am on Friday the 26th November. So call in your sick leave, reschedule you UNI exams or simply tell your boss to get stuffed cause your heading to the mountain for the last week in November to be involved in the biggest downhill and music event of the year.

The ASRA girls made sure rider check-in was a torrid affair with competitors having to complete at least 1 crossword question to gain entry to the event

BMB President Mountain Mic Codner will be back again this year with his BMB crack team to run the carnage at the Dipper

With riders approaching Forest Elbow at 90km/h the volunteers did a great job in picking up the pieces

I built a gopro with a 5w transmitter and lithium pack the other day and fuck me it worked! its not that big but could be hooked up to a rider so I can switch to a rider cam in the middle of a race. The whole setup would be no bigger than jacko's old POV but it may allow me to switch from start cam to rider cam to dipper cam back to rider cam and so on. I still need to do some more testing but its looking very possible. You may just need to avoid doing double flips on the track cause it could cost me $400 each time you do and you could blow up
