Round 2 of the 2007 Conehead Cup went off with a record 38 riders from around Australia taking on the flesh-tearing crete of Kincumber Ditch.
After an extended period of wet weather, a couple of days of sun had us optimistic that the ditch would be dry, and so it seemed when we arrived. But although the sunny weather held, the accumulated moisture in the side of the hill began to seep through the concrete, slowly making one side of the course wet and slippery.
Early race leader Mick Mulhall seemed to be in the box seat as conditions got slipperier and slipperier, but just as everybody began to give up on improving their times, local ripper Glen Mills laid down an unbelievable run with water spraying up from his wheels to slide into first place by 0.04 of a second.
Steve Daddow and Kurt Nischel travelled all the way from Queensland to take 3rd and 4th place, and were unlucky not to do better, with the top four separated by only 0.28 seconds.
