World Cup Expands To Nine Events!!!

Written by: Marcus Rietema IGSA

Petaluma, California, USA – The International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) is excited to announce the 2011 IGSA World Cup Series schedule for Downhill Skateboarding and Street Luge. Visiting nine countries and five continents in 2011, the schedule has expanded reflecting the strong international growth of downhill skateboarding. Increased media coverage will enable more people than ever to witness the excitement of the IGSA World Cup Series.

For the second consecutive year, the season will begin June 29-July 3 with the Maryhill Festival of Speed in the United States. A few weeks later, the Series will move to Europe for three consecutive events beginning with the Kozakov Challenge July 21-24 in the Czech Republic. Following Kozakov, the Series heads to Germany July 29-31 with the Insul Cup 2011. The Euro swing will conclude August 5-7 in Italy with the Padova Grand Prix.

On September 2-4, the World Cup Series will return to North America for the WinSport Canada Cup. The event will feature a $10,000 cash purse, video broadcast with jumbotron’s and live webcasts of all the action. Taking place at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary and the organizers are pulling out all the stops.

Following a one-month hiatus, the Series will resume in the Southern Hemisphere. First up will be the Hotel Los Portales Tarma November 4-6 in Tarma, Peru. One week later the Series heads to Brazil November 11-13 for the Malarrara Pro Teutonia. Teutonia is the fastest racecourse in the world with competitors reaching speeds in excess of 113 km/h (70 mph).

Two weeks later the Series will be in Bathurst, Australia for Newton’s Nation. Newton’s Nation is much more than a race with an action sports festival and live music featuring the biggest bands in Australia. For the ninth year in a row, the IGSA World Cup Series will wrap up at the Biosphere Reserve in Kogelsberg, South Africa. On December 9-11, Hot Heels Africa will likely be the race where the Downhill Skateboarding and Street Luge Championships are determined.

The International Gravity Sports Association is the international sanctioning body for downhill skateboarding and street luge, organizing the IGSA World Cup Series. IGSA events involve head to head downhill racing competitions where participants routinely reach speeds in excess of 110km/h (65mph) as they hurtle themselves down mountain roads negotiating ninety degree bends and hairpin corners.

Canada, Peru, and....Mt Isa by the look of the map.

It's definitely a lot less European and a lot more American (north and south), which is good in a general way, but the travelling will be harder

These track pictures really give a great perspective of how tight some of these tracks are. Peru looks so sweet, and Italy with all of the corners after a cruisy ridedown from the start would be a challenge. Really good news congrats.

Andrew, sorry to say it isn't. unless in a big pack, its lame and just burns. the freeride event later in the year would be far better.
