ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Me and a couple of mates have been skating on a great road and a couple of our wheels just dump thane on the road. There is an older resident that always comes out and gets angry at us and threatens to call the cops he also comes out with a broom and watering can and tries to get the thane of the road. We normally leave because we don't want trouble but we where wondering what the law is and if we should stay because we don't want fines etc.

read the road rules in the forums that robbo posted

If the road has no white lines, a speed limit of 50 or less and you are not riding it at night then you are fine. The thane will only last a day if that on the road, wind, dew and cars clean it up pretty quickly. Let the old guy know that you are allowed to skate there and the police have suggested it to you as a spot (providing it is actually legal) and explain to him that the thane is just little bits of rubber and he doesn't need to go out there with a broom and clean it up unless he really enjoys doing it.

It's like chalk - very temporary. I can't imagine a cop thinking that using chalk on a road would be illegal, but the combination of (Oh Noes) SKATEBOARDING with ignorance about the very temporary nature of thane might lead an overly zealous, or simply bored, cop, to cause trouble. I imagine they would think in terms of burnouts, which do leave long-lasting marks on the road, and unlike skating are noisy, polluting, and dangerous to others.

You could always call the cops to complain about the old guy - tell em you come to skate this road but this old guy chases you with a broom and tries to beat you. Could be fun.

Haha!

Damn thane lines!

Back in my day we used to clean up after ourselves, we used to respect the streets and not leave all ( long pause )  lines everywhere!

Its an outrage, it is!

He's talking out his wahoo. Just being a grumpy old man. Be freindly and don't antagonise the guy so nobody can accuse you of being a menace but don't buy into his nonsense.

These dudes met a similar grumpy old man:

just a little note to your first statement bugs, i have seen cops and council try and fine people for using chalk on the roads before and technically speaking it is illegal under the anti graffiti laws, but this could just be a Victorian thing
