ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

In our local town we are trying to rectify the tainted view on downhill skateboarding and just generally spread the stoke and broaden peoples horizons. The includes, but is not limited to, talking to the locals and smiling and waving at everything that moves, ESPECIALLY people in cars on the hills you are skating.

Recently "mumsie" was chatting with a work colleage when she said something along the lines of "I was driving the other day and these boys were riding skateboards down a hill, they gave me a huge smile and a wave. I didn't even know them. IT MADE MY DAY."

You may think that your friendliness is not noticed or goes unmentioned, but I know from experience that it pays off. Giving a wave also lets them know your in control, and not as scared as they might be. Spread the Stoke, it might just save you a run in with the Police.

I can't agree more.
yes smile and wave boys, smile and wave
tru finn, i always like skating with ur baby face, ur always giving the group a good image, always smiling and being kind 2 all the locals... keep spreading stoke!

yea,

helmets and hellos barely cost anything, but they make the world of difference...

around my area i have quite a few residents that i regularly say hi to, and in return, they are nice to me and let me skate the road...

thats what its all about. smiling is contagious and when you mix that with a wave, even assholes struggle not to wave back or smile.

its worked for my crew many times before and makes a big difference.

had a run in with the cops today on my local street, and for the first time in ages they said "take it easy" their normal response is "get off before you kill yourselves"

so true matty, braking your tuck to wave to upcoming traffic is cool!

as mike once said to me when he was teaching me to skate - smile, you will skate better
