if you want sean but it'll cost ya bucks
Im planning to build a press and make board myself, just wondering with cross grain what angle do you run it at. 90deg to the other plys or 45 or 30? anyone tried different angles out?

Generally they are run at 90 deg. Although that is a very good question and they would be more beneficial for torsional stiffness at say 30 deg ( or what ever is a true diagonal of your board length. ) Problem is you would then need 4 cross (or diagonal) plys, 2 for each diagonal. This many cross plys might detract from the longitudinal stiffness ( it might not too as I haven't tried it ). You would also need to get your veneer cut accordingly ( so at 30deg to the grain ). I expect this would be near on impossible unless you did it yourself

So in theory yes its could very well work, but in the real world where everything costs money and anything different costs even more, probably not an economical feasible idea.

Good to see some thought going in to it though , keep it up bro, you will be be building like a pro in no time...

Thanks Steve, if the stuff isnt to expensive ill give it a go when I build my press
