ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

G'day!

I've recently decided to take up longboarding for something to do in my spare time. It looks like awesome fun, can't wait to give it a try. I owned a skateboard years ago, nothing special, I wasn't ever that good but that was years ago, time to give longboarding a try!

In the recent weeks I've done much research and reading on different shapes, lengths, models. I'd have it down to a maybe 2-3 boards them discover something else and have to completely rethink it or start again. I had almost narrowed a board down when I stumbled onto this site after reading into Australian boards. Now I'm back to the start again. I'm completely overloaded and overwhelmed to as which way I should go.

My main use for a board would be more downhill (sliding & carving) rather than flats.

To give you an idea to as what I was looking at:

landyachtz - all their downhill/freeride models

Sector 9 - 9 Star

Rayne - vendetta, killswitch, nemesis

Earthwing - Supermodel

Kind of gone off the Arbor boards.

Since I discovered the Australian boards I like the idea of buying one of them as long as I can find one that would suite me, as a beginner, and would perform as well as the above boards. There isn't as much info about them around obviously so I thought this would be the best place I could possibly go.

Any recommendations? Would I be better off sticking to an old tested and true model? Any advice very much appreciated and taken into consideration. Thank you.

Have a look at the Daddow praxis or gnosis. Very rad boards.

Gnosis is rad but has a gnarly w concave that isn't to everyone's taste. Glyde to a drop though version of the whyte line too which looks rad. Get out to a sesh there's bound to be someone with some Aussie wood for you to try.

my head was aching by the end of that...^^

Glyde drop. You won't regret it, trust me, can do everything. Don't get an early drop deck, you *will* regret it.
glyde ! such a rad boards especially (whyte line swallow)

i second that such an amazing and versatile board... that or the glyde libelle ben bro hay has been winning races on it all over australia!

You said you are looking at Vendetta, Killswitch and Nemesis. All these boards are worlds apart, you need to decide if you want Flex, Stiff top mount or a drop deck, then chose any board coz you will not tell the differences between the brands if your just starting out. Trust Me I skate all the time.

Definately try out a Daddow Praxis sickest Aussie made board EVER!!!
