ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

hi to day i was riding a normal park skateboard around the hill near my house and i started carving down the hills and after a while the wheels got really hot and after a while the wheel would hardly  even grip the road on tight turns the only thing i can put it down to is the heat in the wheels does anyone have any other ideas.

a bit of heat is good

the bearings have siezed. the core is fucked.

you are riding a park skateboard... they do not grip when carving on hills...

what wheels are they? If you say spitfires.....

I was told that if you flatspot park wheels, they grip like nothing else!

dont park boards slide out on flat ground? surely its worse on a hill?

dexter wheels

For sure. Bigger contact patch.

bearing failure = heat

They will melt from the inside out right up until the point where the tyre part of the wheel rips right off the core like a toasted marshmallow. Just ask Guff about pumpstation.

Could be Hard wheels.

Softwheels ie sub 80duro can easily deflect to soak up the small bumps on a rough surface...ie bitumen.

Hard wheels ie 90duro + have trouble soaking up the bumps in bitumen cause they are best for smooth concrete.

Because they dont soak up the bumps they have to get warm to disperse the energy that the bumps put into them.

It has something to do with E=mc2....

Try this.

Get a piece of garden hose. Hit it with a hammer about 20 times quickly, and see how warm it gets.

Just saying, it has nothing to do with E=mc^2

It's friction.

Whether it's the bearings or just the wheels on the road, it's friction.

You were riding small hard wheels down a road. A little thing named friction made them heat up. Why does this discussion exist? It is not bearings, or blown cores, just friction.

If you are old enough to be online, own your own skateboard and form a sentence with a keyboard and you still don't know about friction then the Australian schooling system is deteriorating faster than we thought....
