Its about brain injuries involved in extreme sports, mainly due to lack of helmets.
If you think wearing a helmet isnt cool or your dont think you 'need one' then please look at this site and then tell me what you think...

I just watched a couple of the clips on this site and if you haven't already woken up to the seriousness of not having a helmet on your head I expect this will do the job.
What everybody does whether you are a longboarder, luger, biker, etc can pose a large risk if not wearing a helmet. You may be in control most of the time if you're experienced, but you still don't want to be caught off guard without protection.
Also, just in case, if you're going to wear a helmet that's not buckled, you may as well not wear one at all.
SO TRUE !! I always were a helmet even rolling to the shops !!! They make some cool helmets now so there should be no excuses ....

www.xratedhelmets.com.au check em out !
i know of one qld downhiller who had to have his skull drilled to relieve pressure and prevent brain damage i dont recall that he enjoyed it much!!! plus its not cool to drool .
thanks for looking out for us jacko.. that one more thingi need to look into for my board

That is so true! and don't forget, at our age wearing a bib is not a fashion statement, so unless you are guaranteed to have someone tending to your dribble duct 24/7, that's what you could wind up wearing, instead of your helmet.

Another protection item also worth using is wrist guards, cause at our age, NOBODY wants to wipe ya date either!
Thanks for the link Jacko, on the weekend i was going down a familiar and straight forward hill. I stood at the top and contemplated my helmet, knowing the hill so well, but I put it on more by chance than decision. After seeing the results of a 30 km/hr stack in the doco, I'll never contemplate again, the lid stays on, for myself and my family. Thanks mate
saw this a few months back....pretty eye opening. started wearing a helmet now and lucky i did because i had a major fall going down a garage last night. if i wasnt wearing one who knows
Taken from another thread

Fitz: "This is the result of equally bad crashes. I had fullface with full leathers.
Neal had skid lid (still wearing it)with pads.
Like robbo said. It totally kills the day taking mates to hospital."

If you skate downhill wear a fullface, as you can see it makes a difference.

Let me introduce you to Austin, Goldcoast speedboarder. 3rd place MOTH
He wasn't wearing a helmet. He was lucky enough to live the crash.
when the fuck was that?

or is that why he has that bald spot...?

A great resource and it's all very bang on, cheap pun, there is maybe one more consideration with helmets; weight.
A lot of clients I see that have taken spills in various sports wearing standard helmets usually have trauma to the neck. If you put a full face helmet on and relax you'll see just how much strain it puts on the neck; a heavy helmet is still better than no helmet, but a lighter construction (with the same safety standard) would be even better. That's in the perfect world, we wear what we can afford, but when we can afford it the lighter construction will give added protection to the neck in the event of a spill.
