hey matt g i could be wrong but im going to give my 2 cents anyway:

bearings are in perspective, the least important part of a skateboard. well let me rephrase, what type of bearings is the least important thing. the ABEC rating is designed with machinery in mind, it is about the number of revolutions per second or minute the bearing is capable of, skateboarding throws this out of perspective, the second you stand on the board you are compressing the bearing and throwing all ratings out of the equation. dont buy in to the whole abec 3 5 and 7 hype machine. i have heard good things about biltin but they cant be too fantastic. personally i use bones reds, they are cheap reliable and good. you are going to be thrashing your bearings and riding them in the rain most likely. some DH riders will buy expensive ones for race days but most just pull out a new set of reds or another relatively cheap bearing. the reason some bearings ride smooth is cleanliness. if you are truly concerned about your bearings just pull them out once a week and give them a good clean. one thing i have heard is DO NOT USE WD-40, apparently it screws your bearing because it is a water based lubricant or some crap. i have been using it for a while and hadn't noticed but there you go i guess.

anyway get some biltins if you want cause they are under $50 and i have heard good things but dont shell out for precision bearings that are made for machinery and rated acordingly.

hey thanks for thet helped heaps. :)
I like biltins, Won a free set from pimpima slope styles ;) So easy to change from different wheels and you dont have to worry about losing spacers or rings. just that little less time consuming and easier :P
I've heard Biltins are the bomb! Better than ceramics i've heard too!
Definitely my next set that i'll buy. Plus they also have an inbuilt 10mm spacer for almost all wheels and removing the annoying hassle of fitting the spacer around your axle! Orangatang, Hawgs, Zigs almost every wheel hub!
Personally i just have $15 delivered sets off ebay and can't go wrong really. Ride them, thrash them, chuck 'em.
I would keep Biltins for my racier board, and just keep cheap, popular bearings for your commute/city slasher just because they are easier to replace.
I hope that helps.
Yeah ABEC 1,3,5,7,9,11 ratings are pretty irrelevant in skateboarding. Abec 7 is cheap and fast. You don't need any better. You could race the world cup with a cheap set of bearings!
Yeah builtins are the shit, saves a lot of hassle with spacers n speed rings. Worth it!
Try search in the top right hand corner, but here's one link.
