Mobility vs Safety
If you find it too restrictive with them try without.
But if it's a nice tight movable fit now, why not just leave them in.
I take my back protectors off if I wear a backpack while skating. I never wear my shoulder pads cuz it's very restrictive on my arms during a tuck.
Depends how big? I've seen leathers with just a 16mm thick foam insert rather than a full plastic turtle shell.
If you're still learning I suggest you leave in all the padding until you get your sliding down.
cheers guys, yer nar im no kook sliding n stuff, i think ill take everything out, i think mainly because shoulder and back contact is less likely to occur when riding a skateboard than a motorbike when u got 200-300 kgs bikes and higher speeds. i'll find out if this is right when i have a big crash...
shoulder and back contact are highly likely to occur when downhill skateboarding,in the event of somthin goin wrong u cant have to much protection...but somtimes to much protection can be restrictive on the movements we make while skating, wich may lead to a crash...u need comfort and protection, but as for predicting crashes, sliding on back and landing on shoulders are some of the most common crashes....hittin a car or guardrail...none of us have protection to deal with that..

I always remove shoulder, back and hip, leaving just knee and elbow. I also remove the shell in the knee and elbow and just leave the soft padding layer. However I would never advise anybody else to do that, its just a personal position.
I usually have an exo skeleton on but im old and these old bones need it plus with heaps of padding you can push yourself and crash anytme
