Event Description

The 2012 Yarra Ranges Downhill Festival is Victoria's first legal, closed road slalom/downhill race event. It's been a long time coming but will be a chance for us to show the locals that downhill skaters are not 'playing russian roulette with cars' (thanks Tracy) and are above all, awesome to watch.

Schedule

Downhill Racing, Slalom, Music, Barbecue all in one jam packed day of fun. If you call yourself a long boarder and live in Melbourne, you better be there.

What does it cost?

  • $55 for downhill
  • $15 for slalom and $5 for the Penny riders
  • All riders receive free raffle tickets!

Registration

Open Registration will begin on Thurs, November 11th at 7pm (AEST). Payment is made via Paypal at time of registration. Once rego is paid there will be no refunds for any reason, you use it or you lose it.

Please download the Full Event Waiver - You must return this form signed on the day

You don't need a fullface for slalom.

For Anyone that wants to try slalom, there should be spare boards to borrow.

Check Face Book for a prize allocation update.

Make sure all your nephews know about the under 15 Penny Slalom with even more prizes.

Scott we'll be having a slide jam at some stage so bring the above Event Waiver.

Nah I have a switchblade, I just don't have a full face and it's not so good for slalom, just wondering if there were non competitive "events"

Hambo,

You can rego tomorrow. (bring a signed indemnity form, and cones if you have em.)

Scott,

bring a signed indemnity form, and we will see what we can let you do.

You will dig slalom, and there will be loan boards.

While racing is on, the road will be for racing only.

I'm probably going to come down but im not going to enter any events, will there be just downhill runs or is the whole day booked out with racing?

For slalom can we pay and reg on the day or do I need to do something now

Morning Everyone. Only one day to go!!!

We've had to re-jig the competition a little bit to balance the open and grom riders. The age for groms is now 16 and under with the three fastest guys winning a new deck each, photos up soon. Anyone 17 and over will still be racing in open with the chance to win vouchers and gear. All riders will receive raffle tickets putting you in the draw to win a new HD camera with accessories and more amazing prizes from our wonderful sponsors, check the photos on FB. Sorry for the changes but it had to be done.

It's standard to have 2 timed runs for the qualifiers for head to head slalom. if your time is limited I think it would be wise to stick with the standard.

Craig,

Every road is different, and we have not used Baynes Rd before.

Also time will be limited, but we hope to set the course at around 2pm, and start racing at 2:30. give or take 1/2 hour.

Start will be push, cone spacing will be around 2 metres or more, and there will be offsets to make you earn it, and the odd cone placement to mess with your heads!  It all depends on the road and the ability race reasonably safely.

Assuming we can do dual lane racing:

Race format will be a few practice runs, then 3 or 4 qualifying runs to get your fastest time, and ranking for seeding into a 16 person simple elimination round.

At the moment it looks like just over 20 will be racing, but only the fastest 16 will go to the elimination rounds.

If we need to do single lane racing, we will use the twisted jam format, which uses best average time, for each round, with only the fastest 16 getting to the second round.

For the Pennys, it will be a simple push start single lane race, of about 50 metres long.  Racers will have 4 runs, and the time fastest wins.

We aim to start the Penny racing at around 10:30, while the downhill is running, but in a smaller area sectioned off from the downhill run-out. Penny racing should finish around 11:30 or 12pm.

If time permits we also hope to have some longboarder friendly slalom, and to prove who can really skate anthing, a Penny slalom challenge for grown ups, which consists of a single run only, on a Penny...of course, and the fastest wins.
