We only need the trackmate timer. $250.00
We don't need the rest of trackmate infra-red stuff, because we can make everything else ourselves. (don't forget postage costs)
Cable [tick] ( telephone cable &rj12 connectors, and toss in a garden hose reel! )
Tape switches [tick] (mine have lasted more than 5 years, and cost around $20 for a pair.
Infra-red sensors, use the tag system, or see Tape-switches above!
Heya bugs, we're onto it, and looking at the full system with cables and infrared both ends. We've got the Tag Heuer booked for this year, we're also going to ask what the deal is with making the trackmate wireless as they can customise it, which would mean that any event could run dual lane slalom while the tag is used for downhill etc.
i would like a go at the 100 cone over 55 age group record ! Rene carrasco,s record stands at 28.33 secs!thats a world record !maybe set a ausie record ! be fun !
Re replacing the trakmate, looks like we need the following:
That's US$570, plus shipping.
It's enough for single-lane on it's own, as long as you have cable to run the length of the course.
When you combine it with the two infra-red transmitter/receiver pairs that are part of the Tag Heuer system we have, it's enough for dual-lane OR single-lane, with no need to run cable the length of the course either.
If we can procure two tape switches from somewhere we can save some money. In practice the tape switches would be used for the start lines on the ramps - it's a tried and tested solution, and no more troublesome than attaching infra-red sensors to the ramps.
Looking at tape switches here: http://www.tapeswitch.com/onlinestore/products.php?cat=11
we can get two tape switches (131A) for about US$100 plus shipping. I'm not 100% sure these would be beefy enough though. The 171IS might be better, but would be US$165 plus shipping. Too beefy and a skater won't trip the switch. Not beefy enough and it'll get destroyed. Anybody have an informed opinion?
G'day Nathan, the tag can do the bottom end with 2 lanes when combined with the Trackmate, but without it's single lane. We are happy to get the Trackmate out of our budget and work that out with ASRA offline as we have had prior arrangements with them in place for insurance and so on, and of course it will be available to all to use around the country, but it will also be a borrower pays system if the unit goes missing.
Scotty, my understanding is the tag cannot do duel lane (its what we had last year and that is why we required Bernies gear). Perhaps a request to ASRA as to the possibility of purchase of another trakmate or something that can run duel lane so that CROSS isnt the only duel lane event in Australia. Cone dodgers have generally been paid up members of ASRA from day dot? I have no clue on price or availabilty of these machines having said that. But i do think a reliable, available duel lane timing system is super important to slalom races continuing in OZ. (The trakmate is what kicked it off!)
The missing Trakmate is gone, nobody knows what happened to it, so we will buy one. More info soon, I am talking to the ASRA guys about setup with the Tag system as I think there are tweaks involved, and I need to discuss finances with the CROSS crew, but end of story is that we're racing dual lane with the proper setup as always :)
