Skateboarding has been getting a bad wrap for generations, seen as a group of law breaking, jobless youths with nothing better to do except piss off locals and cause trouble.
As the sport has grown, developed and longboarding emerged, the nature of the riders has too, our community is built on a clean, safe and fun means of transport that we all enjoy.
As riders progress from carving the boardwalk to bombing the hills, we face a problem and daily are confronted with misled, ill advised perceptions of what our sport is and who our community are. This is usually portrayed by motorist yelling as we skate by.
With more younger riders joining our sport we have to raise skate awareness with other road users as well as educate GROMETS on road rules, warning motorist that we too use the road and we can break if we want to.
" they must have a death wish" or " they have no breaks", are all ridiculous comments if you have any concept of our sport and lifestyle. We should show the greater community of Sydney that anyone can ride a skateboard, mums dads kids and oldies, we love life and live each day to skate again.
I'm proposing Sydney's first Kritical Mass, a skate awareness initiative, with the hope of promoting longboarding as a safe, clean, fun way to travel. On Thursday the 28th at 2pm we'll be having a flat land expression session in Price Albert Park, everything from oldschool, dancing, high jump to longest ollie, free drinks. From there we will do a run into the city, leaving at 6, and through to the opera house, staying in the left lane, following the road rules and having fun. No prize for making it there first but heaps of give away for the guys having the best time.
Once we make it to the Opera House we will converge for a photo of Sydneys Longboarding community and then disappear into the night, or down the carpark for a mondo china bomb.

to encourage more skating we will hold a flatland jam in prince alfred park, over any discipline, on any board. high jump and longest ollie, will start there at 2pm or abouts and then roll to the opera house at 6, 6-30.
Hopkin Race team riders will be around to help you out either with the basics or nailing that trick most of the day, and judging the riding over the afternoon.
For improved media coverage rename the protest!
"Innocence of Skateboarders"
will be counting down the days
I'd have loved to, if it didn't conflict with uni. Maybe next time!
