ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey Guys, so i need you help. At the moment i ride a Powel Peralta 'Whale Tail' shortboard. Its rad, and I already carve bowl, bomb hills, ride drains and ditches and pull slides on it. Its great, but I'm looking at getting a larger longbaord for more stability on hills etc. I've narrowed my choices down to these two.

-The new Z-Flex Longboard: http://zflex.com/longboards.html It uses the Kingpin Truck system which i'm used to, and i like the shape. I can get it for flat $200.

-And the Original Apex 34: http://store.originalskateboards.com/apex_34_longboard.aspx It uses their own Spring Systemed Truck which i've never used. I've heard mixed reviews about them. I really like the shape of this baord, in terms of its size, and identical shape either side, and with the spring systemed truck, i gather it means it can be ridden either direction, so landing switch isn't a problem. I like the versatility of this board. I can get it for $269 including postage.

Can anyone give me some advice from their own personal experiences or preferences? Cheers.

Both of then arent the greatest. why dont you buy a rayne killswitch. my brpther has one and its rad.

Dunno man. The Killswitch looks alright, but its not so much a 'me' board. You know?! Im not really a fan of the shape...

If you can get your hands on one, you can't go wrong with this bad boy. SO RAD

Mmmmm, yeah. I've already got a Whale Tail Board. This is what mine is: http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=steve+steadham+deck&hl=en&...

I'm looking for something a little larger for stability etc.

Okay. I've been reading/watching all sorts of reviews on Originals stock s8 spring systemed trucks, and every review contradicts the last. Does anyone here know how they go with bombing? Not full straight, downhill racing bombing, but reasonabily fast (20kph max?) something like that....

That board has almost 8 inches of length more than what you're currently rocking and a good 11 inches in wheel base. It's good for DH, free ride, kicking to the shops. So rad.

Don't ever buy longboards of eBay go to a Australian own skateshop and support your store go to momentum or the hop shop

Bloody hell! 80 Bucks?! Hahaa. Thanks for the suggestion, it looks like a really rad board. I'll try find it in a shop somewhere and give it a test, but i found it on ebay for $254 with postage which is pretty good! Thanks for your help, and any other suggestions are gladly taken!

Yeah I agree with you there Kane. I was with my mate the other day as he bought himself a new longboard, and we both rekon for a first 'real' longboard, you need to shop test it! I'm gona keep lookin!

As some one else said original trucks are pretty wack and take a while to get used to. If you have your heart set on it find someone who would let you try theirs first. I didn't like them that much, too unpredictable. I think you should get something that can handle faster k's (at least 60) cos once you start going fast you won't want to stop. Anything that doesn't have much flex and has reverse king pin trucks will do the job. A lower angle base plate (42 or 44) will be more stable, but a bit less carvey than a higher angle plate (50 or 52)
