IGSA World Championships 2011 Teutonia Brazil

In Brazil this weekend, IGSA are holding the World Championships. There are two IGSA titles each year. World Cup Champion is the racer with the most points from the year's racing. Then there is the elusive World Champion title. One race during each year is deemed the World Championships and the racer who wins it is crowned World Champion.

Tuetonia is a one of a kind event. Jackson gives us a few insights into the lead up to the event. (click on the last two links on that page to see why Teutonia is feared and repected around the world).

Day One was on Friday (our Saturday). Jackson qualified 26th, you have to read to understand.

I have just posted Jackson's write up for Day Two. He has improved, managed to get a full tuck going, and is now sitting at 17th with a 2 second improvement. It would not be IGSA if there was not a bit of controversy on qualifying day.

Finals are tomorrow.

I have been caught out with my blogs posts. A week ago I said their would be a new world Champion, becasue I did not think Kevin was competing. Although at the start of the year I predicted Kevin would target Teutonia for a comeback, I had heard nothing and assumed he was staying in Canada. The last word from Kevin was an email a few months ago saying he was walking and getting some solid time and kms under his belt. Kevin has qualified fastest for Teutonia this year!!

Tomorrow will be interesting. Can Kevin be stopped? Will Dalua achieve the one title that has eluded him and become a national hero? Maybe destiny is with the Dalua understudy Macaco. Will the new mental toughness of the ice man Mishco rule the day? Can an Australian surprise them all? Can Switzer prove he can win a race when Kevin is not injured? Will James live up to his title of The American Dream? Or will everyone crash and let Stephen Bradbury win?

All will be revealed tomorrow.

And some news for the Ladies? I believe there are only two luge competitors and both have been unable to make the course without crashing. It might turn into a running race.

Mischo Erban is the new IGSA World Champion

He beat Danky Dean in the final. Dalua beat K-rimes in the consi

Jacko came 14th.

I found a website with the Luge results!!!

http://encontrodosradicais.blogspot.com/2011/11/segundo-dia-malarra...

Brazil dominates the top ten.

Walter Ribeiro is the world champion. He set a new course record!! 1:14.661 - I can not imagine how fast that is.

Pete Eliot waving teh empire flag in 8th. Journeyman McBride at 12th. Abdil at 14th (interesting to hear what happened there, I would have thought he would be faster)

Still no word on how the ladies went. I'll keep looking. Maybe Lea has seen some results in her connected book of faces??

congrats jacko, good effort for first time there bro,..

pretty stoked to see mischo back on top, lots of people thought his day had been.

such a great competitor....totally deserves it.

Thats unreal! good on Mischo.

Also well done to danky dean, he deserves a mention for beating his fellow countryman Silva.

Street luge races are quite suprising, all the internationals knocked out first round. The Brazilians must be fast and fearless!
I look forward seeing the speeds from the speed run from both street luge and standup, as well as downhill inline.

Jacko says the first top corner he was railing at 90k. The lugers are 4 to 6 seconds faster than the standup. That is a huge number when you are traveling at those speeds. So how fast are the lugers traveling?

Fast!

Katie was the only Lady. She did not qualify for the opens, there was no ladies division, however she took runs at the end of each round. Street luge speeds were up around 130km/h. Did not have an accurate idea of the skateboard speeds. They tried the speed trap but put it at a stupid spot, well before top speed was reached. They also narrowed the track for the light beams, and then someone smoked right into it... stupid call on the way it was set up....

Mischo was on fire all day. He is world champion and deserves it

Jackson's write up on Teutonia is on the blog with a few bonus phone videos

Mischo smokes Kevin's bacon

Abdil Mahdzan answers the Teutonia luge speed question we all wanted to know the answer too...= 80mph or 131kmph !!!

Plus I have some bonus Teutonia blogs in the works, I'm going to keep them a surprise. The clue is ... I'm doing lots of Portuguese translating.

it was a real shame with the speed trap this year. They decided to move it to a different spot, which in fact was not the fastest spot on the hill at all to measure top speed... also the other retard thing they did was narrow the track to set up the light beams, and it was right after the sweeping turns at the start of the fast section. They also forgot to mention to all the folks at the top that the track was narrowed. Some mega big bloke from Argentina came ripping through, head down full tuck just going for it and smoked into the hay bails that had made the track narrower... bloody crazy. so they canceled the top speed competition

Oh what? they canceled the top speed comp? That sucks!
That's one thing i always look forward to is seeing the speed results. Oh well, next year i guess.
