Skaters Request for Caution Signs Sets Off Firestorm of Debate

Slow, children at play. Caution, kangaroo crossing. Yield to aged pedestrians. Slow down, men at work. All are road signs that may be found in various locations across the globe and if a group of downhill skaters in Australia have their way, there will be one more sign appearing soon. Only this sign will warn motorists that downhill skateboarders may be skating in the area. Read on for a few more details:

Fck yeah, good work james!

article on the same thing! reading the comments is a little bit depressing... some people need some serious re-education!

if they got signs warning motorists about skaters on the road that would be alot safer and that would make drivers more aware of us on the road

Love it!

love it, on one hand who would not be responsible enough to heed the request and improve safety? in reality though what I can see happening is council bylaws being raised and passed to ban skating in the area....

may as well be banned at the moment considering the way we are treated, not really much to loose. a ban wont do shit.

We might need to follow the lead from the "occupy wall street' movement to make a point.

Imagine an "occupation" of the town square, council chambers front steps, say 1st week of school holidays....

Only problem is that we are actually the 1%!

Haha, if they ban this spot, then everyone should put the same idea through to every single spot that we are alowed to skate, then when they ban them all, then they have to actually build something costing millions, or putting up a few signs and letting us skate.

so then what happenes when they actually build us a spot to skate? we can only skate there... all your favourite runs you will definitely not be able to hit any more as there is a place for us to do it... then we get bored of that one spot and move on to somewhere else, which is another road...

i reckon its a good idea to just post signage up for those areas where its LEGAL to skate, but i dont think its worth going back to the same debate. everyone is all talk no action. just go out and ride your board... they can only fine you if they catch you

Do what we do and put your own up when you are riding. That way when motorists see it they know there are skaters on the road. If it is there all the time and you aren't it'll be a bit like crying wolf and noone will take any notice.

i got told off by the police for doing that they said it distracts driver attention from driving and more attention to skaters...well why the F**K do you think i put the signs up for? they made me pull the 3 we had up and ordered off the road. I have never had any complaints from anyone about skating that hill people say its good we have signs up.
