I'm looking to get some new bearings, and really want something that goes good and will last well.

I primarily skate to commute, so the bearings need to take a fair amount of punishment.

Bones Red look like a decent cheap set, but I'm wondering if it's worth putting in the extra $25 to get the super reds.  Ideas?  If you have other suggestions for bearings that would work better, then fire away!

My main concerns are bearings that will last well, and don't get too gritty too fast!

Also, is it worth considering ceramic bearings?  I can get vault ceramic bearings for under $50 ...  What are the pros/cons ?

Standard bones are all you need. Keep them clean, look after them, get yourself some speed rings, use the spacers, crank the bolt down and they will look after you.

yeah, no need for expensive bearings.
the main thing you want is something that is abec 5, or not rated. abec 7 has less room for dirt, even a small amount will make a big difference.

Matt - speed rings?

Oh, fancy names for little washers that allow you to tighten your wheel all the way down so there is no movement in the wheel for buttery slide goodness.

Well, I ended up ordering Bones Super 6 Swiss bearings.

Amazon has them for $45, so I figured I'd try good quality bearings once... If they make no difference to my skating, back to crappy ones!

So despite advice given to you a number of time already by people who know more about the subject than you, you decide to say screw it and ignore it completely. Thankyou for wasting everyones time and I really couldnt give two shits as to what bearings you use.

wow .... ok ....

Not sure what to say to that reply.

I appreciate your frustration at having spent time helping out a noobie to then apparently have them ignore you.  Perhaps my last post wasn't written the best, but I haven't ignored you at all.  Your posts helped focus me to expect bearings to not have that big a difference.  Having accepted that, I then saw cheap good bearings going on Amazon and decided to try them out once before settling for cheaper crappy ones.

I'm sorry if my post didn't reflect the process I've been through.  Thank you for your help.

That being said, if you're getting this worked up about a quick post online, then perhaps it's time for a holiday :-S
