Hi Dave,
It's about power/weight ratio and weight/stability ratio.
I figure with a slalom deck the lighter the better for turning through the cones,
lighter means the setup has less inertia, so its easier to change its direction.

Power/Weight/stability with a speed/downhill deck.
Big and heavy sticks to the road, what happens when you start making them lighter and lighter?
Is there a minimum weight needed to rettain stability? Picture a offshore jet boat flippin.
(or do i just eat another pie to make the weight up? will there be handicapping at Newtons based on my weight).
Wayne.
Light boards are twitchy , thats why wood core decks feel better to ride than foam cores ,
light decks feel quicker when pushing but whether the feeling translates to actual speed is
6 of one 1/2 a dozen of the other so to speak , I will make foam core pans but would not ride one myself
while others would do the opposite
I reckon deck weight isn't that important, except for ease of carrying. I weigh 80kg, and the deck weighs approx 1kg. Does it really matter whether it weighs 0.9kg or 1.1kg?
bugs short answer = no

All board have different riding characteristics ,as do riders . The trick isnt having a lighter or heavier set up ,its about feeling comfortable and knowing your setup (board) and what its can do !
one person will love an active twitchy board that is light with plenty of front wedge ,While the next rider may be riding a flat heavy board with a smoother radius turn .
When ever you get a chance to ride other peoples boards take it ,the more boards you get to feel the more you can understand what YOU like !
