ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

This was an idea nathan had the other day and let me know wat you think. The idea is that we have a race in coffs harbour but not just any race since coffs is right in the middle of sydney and brisbane he suggested a skate of origin comp for longboarders - Sydney/naccos vs QLD "The Skate Of Origin". I do not know of any hills around here to hold an outlaw on but i havent scouted every hill around theres millions of bannana growers roads in the moutains and a few hidden tracks i am yet to skate so at the moment let us all know wat you think about the Skate Of Oringin!!!

Public liability shouldn't be too hard to get. Businesses need it to operate and if they sponsor or are involved in the event as far as i know you could use their insurance. I run a Camper Trailer and Camping Equipment business and when we do the camping shows we need to provide the proof of public liability to i think $20m. Having never sponsored anything like this I'm not entirely sure how all that would work, maybe Hop would be the man to ask how that works?? Having said that, if it comes to Vic, I'd sponsor an Event!! Not sure what prizes to put up as my line of business has bugger all to do with skating...

haha thanks man ive asked the council about the insurance so i hope to recieve a reply soon

As Robbo said, this is standard stuff. None of it is expensive in $$$, but it takes significant time and effort, and requires thinking through a lot of logistical details and coming up with solutions for potential problems.

ASRA can help provide the public liability insurance for a reasonable fee.

this the councils reply to my enquirery and i think i might go with an outlaw coz if you read the condishions i need some serious $$$$$$$$$$
Councils reply- I acknowledge receipt of your email regarding the above event on Bowraville Road adjacent to the hospital, and which would be considered like any other event. Standard conditions include, but not limited to:
  • An approved Traffic Management Plan (TMP) by an accredited person that details the route, parking areas, spectator areas, marshalling areas, dates, times, road closures, traffic control, access for emergency vehicles, etc.
  • Use of accredited traffic controllers for set up and pull down of any devices associated with the Traffic Control Plan (TCP)
  • If the road is to be closed then advertising would be required.
  • Proof of public liability insurance to the value of $20,000,000.00
As this is a regional road the Roads and Traffic Authority RTA would not require any separate approvals however if this event is considered a road race (like cycling events) then Police approval would be required.

It should be noted that this section of Bowraville Road services the Brierfield and Kalang areas and is the only access to Bellingen from those areas. Closing the road for the event would represent a severe disruption to the residents of those areas.

The location of the hospital to the event would not necessarily satisfy the safety requirements for the event as the staff at the hospital would not be directly involved in the event as they would be engaged in their normal day to day activities. Ambulance staff are not stationed at the hospital and would need to be approached separately to provide support for the event.

Those are very standard conditions to run an event and not really a hurdle if you really want to do it.  $20m public liability insurance is not a problem - that's why ASRA exists, we can provide it.  Or talk to your local YMCA, I know they provide insurance for events in melbourne.

As for the rest, yes it costs money, but that's what entry fees are for.  Start thinking of your budget and you will see it is well within the realms of possibility.

Gilly,

Camping equipment you say...

Are you interested in helping with the MossJam slalom in Melbourne?

we might need to borrow a shade tent for the time keepers....

Thanks man i really want to make this event become reality. I'm in the process of calculating alot of the necessary requirements and costs (its a long list) im trying  to organise it around IGSA events to so some of the better riders can come skate one of the sickest hills in Australia. Also trying to get sponsors.

alexander i have a great idea for a race location. pretty fast if you mack it. it's in queensland. PM me for location

Ok ive got to the stage of organising a traffic management plan which according to the planners will cost around $400-$800 i really need to know how many people will be interested and also some dates that aren't going to interfere with IGSA races.

Please post names of anyone who would attend i nned to know for the coucil just how many riders will be attending (rough estimate) probably will limit to 50-60 if there are serious numbers

my suggestion is to hold a fundraiser skate to get the money needed for the traffic management plan

im workin on that sort of thing but have no idea where to do it

somewhere like byron or lennox where people from sydney and brisbane can travel to easily enough

byron bay. bananas. dont worry about organising it around IGSA. if you build it, they will come... thats all u need to know. just get 'er done, set the date and be like "yo, its on THIS date... make it or blow it"
