Hi, Im an artist living in Sydney, and I have recently begun looking into "tatooing" skateboard decks with custom graphics. Essentially, images are "etched" into the decks, over the exsisting graphics. My profile pic is of one of the trials. The designs are not "lazer engraved", they are hand drawn then hand etched into the deck. What I would like to know is, would there be anyone interested in such graphics on their deck? Ideally, there would be a fee attached to the artwork etc, but at this stage I wanna put it out there and see if there is a general interest in this concept. If you would like to discuss ideas and artwork etc, please let me know. Thanks in advance, WEz

Hey Mate yeah i had a friend ask me about if there was anyone who could do custom graphics on some boards only small boards really, what would you charge for say liek a pattern of some sort just to give the board some sorft of look?
There are a few factors with these style graphics...
size, complexity and weather or not artwork is supplied..I can draw the design if needed.
If the graphic was small (under 10cm x 10cm), and I needed to design the original artwork, based on complexity, it would cost an hourly rate for the design (initial discussion and brainstorming no charge) and then $20-$60 per graphic on deck based on complexity. But costing can be discussed.
Great idea
Wez my mate wanted to know would you use liek a marine varnish onthe board after you put the graphics on, or if not could you?
The "Tatoos" get etched/engraved over the final finnish of the board. However, I can see where your friend is comming from...There are very thin areas of exposed wood (lines usually range from 1mm-2mm wide and are only a1/2mm deep). One option may be to tatoo the board before final varnish. Another option is one I am yet to try, and that is going over the engraved lines only with a thin line of varnish...this could be done fairly easily. How many decks are we talking about?
yes!
what u like at surf art
can u link us to some of ur other creations?
cheers, tom
Umm it would probs be about like 5 the board would not be longer then 30inches and most of them would be like 23inch like mini grenades. so they would need a massive design or anything.

Hey Tom, Im always up for a challenge, but if by "surf style" you mean tribal bands etc, I indeed can do these! I love cartoon stuff, lettering "tags" and anything else. If you could let me know exactly what you had in mind and I can let you know if it is doable. As for samples on decks, these are few at the moment cause I'm still sussing out if there is a "desire" for this style of art in the skate scene. I can post heaps of pics Ive drawn that could be done as "tats" for decks...??
Yer man my mate is looking for like a tag of the letters BNS he made a few mini boards and wanted to sell some to some kids at school if you could like much around with those letters into some quick designs or something to have a look of a sample
Sounds fun...I will give it a go and get back to ya.. What is BNS???
I think it is just the names of two guys who made some boards hahah brody n sean. BNS pretty lame.
