Can't afford to take my longboards home! Help!

Hey guys! I have a BIG problem!
I mailed my old flight company, the one I came with, and asked about how I can take my 5 longboards (12kg) back to Sweden. They said I had to pay... listen now....
630euro = 1075aud extra!!!!!!!

It's no chance I can afford that, It's cheaper to sell all the boards and buy new one's....
This is bullshit, it must be a cheaper and better way to do this..?
What do you guys do with your boards when you're flying overseas?

ehhhh....

Jesus christ! I'm flying off to Germany/Holland for a six month break at the end of this year, and I was planning on stashing a bare minimum of boards away too (three) and figured it wouldn't be an issue.

Maybe it would be cheaper to ship it overseas through the mail? I could just send mine to the missus, hmm....
cant you just put them in normal lugage, overseas flights alow 40kg over 2 items
i usually try to carry as much on board as i can...put em in your check in bagage and fill your backpack with as much shit as you can they never weigh that and just drop it at your feet when checking in..if youve got a helmet put all your wheels in there..
pull your decks apart, remember they dont have to travel fully assembled! you will be supprised how much you can fit in your backpack when you pull your trucks and wheels apart, then all u gotta do it wrap up your 4 decks, it will pretty much look like your carrying fuck all!
This has happend to a few people I know, not neccesarily with skateboard but basically to much gear not enough leniancy with weight limits. You have a few options, as Leeso and Jacko said you can always put smaller stuff like wheels and trucks in your hand luggage but keep in mind that there IS a weight limit on hand luggage to. They dont always weigh your hand luggage and most of the time you will get away with it being to heavy but if they do weigh your hand luggage and it is to much your buggered. You cant put it in your check in luggage because it's to heavy already so you either have to pay for postage or kiss it goodbye.

If I were you I would go through all the thigs you are planning to take. Take out 12 kilos of the most un-neccesary items and post them to Sweden. Probably better to take the boards on the plane because of the length of them they may cost more to mail than say family Christmas presents or a package of clothes.

If not i would be happy to look after your equipment until I myself go to heaven... sorry Sweden. Good luck!
Post the decks home. Carry the wheels trucks etc
I can only take 20kg with me... I will just rock up with my boards in a snowboard bag and hope for the best...
I'll figure out something...
I think they assumed you meant surfboards!
Chuck all your decks into your backpack. Exceed the weightlimit (sometimes only a ridiculously small amount of 20kg overseas) with roughly 3Kg. That works for sure. In case they fuck around you just have to pay a little for excess luggage.
but I don't really know how they deal with too much carry-on luggage (more than 12kg).
Most important is to not exceed the measurements of your luggage (like surfboards always do).
You can always look up the regulations on luggage at the websites of the flight companies and when they fuck around at the airport you give them shit because you always know everything better :-]
If your hand luggage is to heavy you either put it in your check in luggage or if this is already to heavy you find something to leave with them They can hold things for you so a mate can come in and pick it up or chuck it on the next flight going your way but then you have to pay for excess baggage of course.
Dude if this issue is because you can't take back the same weight you brought out or you cant take it back the same way you brought it out, my brother-in-law nearly got screwed like this going back to Scotland. Basically he was told if you have the ticket you came out on whatever weight it states is the weight they must let you take back. My brother-in-law was told at the airport by Singapore airlines his baggage allowance was 11kg less going back than it was coming out!!!
Hey thanks for all the answers guys!

I called my airline (Cathay Pacific) today and had a chat with them. The bitch I talked to said that the sport equipment policy is something they don't have and no matter what I'm taking with me I can only take a total of 23kg + 7kg on the plane. That's it. After that you have to pay 80$ per kg.That's what she said.
I'm reading true their website right now to see what more I can find out.

I paid 50 bucks to become a plus member at Cathay Pacific to be able to get more luggage with me, but I failed...
When I logged on to the website as a member I saw that you need to do one +3,000miles trip before you can get promoted to Silver Member. A Silver Member can take up to 53kg on the plane...

My Loaded Dancer + Loaded Vanguard is 7.3kg for just the decks. And I got a Omni dh board and 2 Originalskateboards as well. All together its around 15-20kg for just the decks... Then I got a 21kg backpack plus 5 pairs of wheels and trucks...

This is VERY annoying.... hm......................... still don't know what to do....
If time is not too much of an issue, then send 'em by sea. It's really cheap, almost free.
