ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Howdy,
Before anyone says so, yes I have used the search function.

I need some advice about setting up a board for starting out downhill. I'm not looking at racing yet, just bombing a few mellow slopes and ramping it up occasionally.

I have a 40 inch Pocket Pistols Hill killer and 10 inch Gullwing trucks.

My question is what duro bushings should I use? I'm around 6 foot tall and weigh around 90 kilos.
Suggestions for wheel will be welcome too. I have wheels at the moment but will upgrade in the near future.

Thanks in advance.

I think all green venom barrels would be good
maybe try all green sabres. when you go a bit faster maybe a pink barrel boardside and a pink cone roadside
Go for a set of red 90a and green 93a venoms imo, for rear go green roadside and red boardside for the front red roadside and green boardside
so you have more turn at the front as the softer duro is roadside, and the harder roadside at the rear for less turn and a little more stability
That is a highly unorthodox way of doing it. No matter how hard you have each side you should always have a softer duro on the roadside. If you want stable at the back and turn at the front and all you have is 2 greens and 2 reds than you should put both greens at the back and both reds at the front

I'm a little bigger than you, around 6'4" and 100kg, and find that red and green Venoms and green Sabres both work really well.
Haha yeah, that makes sense but everyone does it different I guess..and this combo works a treat for me and never given me any problems..whatever the combo though, its what feel most comfortable and works with you. Will give that combo a try though, all the fun of the bushings.

I am 100kgs and if I was riding a top mount like the PPS I think you have to put a fairly hard bushing deck side to help stop the turn in the trucks so you dont get wheel bite.

You have a lot of leverage on a top mount.  When you add some weight to the equasion youll need to go for fairly hard bushings I reckon.

I had the same board (the hill killer) and I set it up with narrower trucks (160 hangers on a 50 degree plate) and it was heaps of fun. Sammy T has been riding it and he rips on it.

Thanks everyone.
Some very useful info there. It's given me a good place to start. I will experiment from there.
Cheers.

PS Nice photo.
