ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

for 24hrs we can be the International focus of skateboarding.....

Okay, in the past I have been behind raves, acid parties, beach parties, warehouse parties, etc etc from 1988 to 2004, so when my wife said "wow this is the song I'm playing at your funeral" (always one for thinking ahead) and then I listened to it and realized the video was shot in Oz and not the US....okay the track is by the youth group "forever young" one of the small surfers is Cheyene Horan later an accomplished ozzy surfer and the whole thing is shot on a hill in NSW, I was like "cool".
SOOOOOOOO it suddenly occurred to me after a wine (or bottle) Australia Day!! National skate day!! let the record company the media and anyone who will listen know that a group of unnamed skateboarders have decided to descend upon the hill to celebrate the Australian downhill past and future. OOOORRRRR someone could get a propa ASRA group together and hit the council with it as an international tourist initiative guiding people to the local legal skate places and parks. Anyone up for a bit of a rollercoaster ride into the realms of State, National, International politics and then the whole tourism thing from state to parliament; whilst at the same time bringing down more publicity than the skate scene in Australia has ever seen; start talking here......as a part time bartender I take full responsibility; we never get touched; even God loves bartenders!!!

Hey Aych, do you mean all the skate companies in Australia could get free international publicity? do you mean a small group could guide the Government to follow a path to set parks and businesses with new international commercial relationships alongside competition venues and facilities? Does this mean the small guys would have the same exposure as the big guys? WHY THE HELL NOT?
the only thing stopping this from happening is enough people that realise the only thing that has stopped it in the past are excuses!!
So when you say "bring it" do you mean it or are they just words?
>:0) ha ha ha ha

I'm in!!
From the first I found this site I wanted to pay up and join but the process appears to be you have to be nominated which has stopped me so far....before this whole thing races down a cul de sac I am in no way challenging the way this site or organisation has been put together. What I am doing is saying, "hey there are about 300 members here, are you a member because you are using this as a resource? which if you are is great there are people here who really get a kick out of helping people and they really have the experience to do that; or are you a member because you realise the power of shared knowledge and the thrill of belonging? or are you here because you really want to propel this sport and all its opportunities forward?" If you haven't financially signed up but are a member are you waiting to be nominated? which is why I haven't signed up
Compared to some sites that really should not be named this is a friendly site manned and used by people who believe in what they do and where they see they want their sport to be going.
So for those that really want to see results and movements in our sports let's hear from you.....that should be at least 200 people and between us let's make a difference rather than talking about someone else doing it.
I do nothing of this to inflame people and if someone from here on in says something a little controversial or upsetting lets deal with it politely as has been done throughout this site in the past and really put Australia on the skating map...obviously without telling the world what we really have...immigration is overworked as it is>;0)

PAID UP MEMBERS, not just signed up to this site, how are we going to get proper recognition from government, corporate, etc without appropriate numbers officially in the association
Where is this hill you're talking about? I saw an interview with those guys a few years back when that song was sort of big and they said it was footage from a hill that was in Frenches forest. Anyhow i've been trying to workout where it was for ages now. Is the Band Youth Group even still around? I think they had there 15mins already and wouldn't be able to encourage council to work with us.
Aych,... apart from the song I think its a great idea to have some sort of critical mass event for us.
Im in if we organise something.
- Im out if you link to the song.
:D

Damn had no idea it read that way; with all respect stuff the song, it was just the thing that gave me the idea that there could actually be one huge skate day. The fact that everyone who saw that video for the first time thought it was in the States when even back then Australia had a lot to offer skaters...we could stand up and show of the sort of resources we have here. That's kinda got to be good for everyone involved in the industry, from those that use boards to those that design and build them.
You can play Rock Lobster at my funeral hahahaaaa Mourners will have to wait 6 minutes and 10 seconds at my funeral also leadfoot.
Have decided to start the day of with Tom Waites Heart Attack and Vine after the 2 week bender I just finished completing on myself.
Track one at my funeral....classical version of Karma police...radiohead.....then BANG straight into energy flash (h2o mix) JOEY BELTRAM BABY!
I thought at Bathurst for 72 hrs a year, we already were the international focus of skateboarding??
