ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Neednotollie.com has recently cut a deal with the Auckland luge track which allows skaters to ride the concrete dream of banked corners and hair pins without having to walk back to the top. Instead riders just pick up their boards and step on to one of the 2 conveyor belts and take the 7 min 350m ride back to the top. There are 3 tracks that make up just over 2.2 km of hills and corners. Those wishing to ride must pass a brief skills and safety test before ascending the magic carpet to the top.
Its not free, a one time $15 fee for a track licence and further $10 per session(approx 2-2.5 hrs). So yeah you have to pay, but its as smooth as butter with no cars or pedestrians. For more info go to Neednotollie.com

Alright, I'm moving to New Zealand.

The grass really is greener over here. see you soon!
awesome.
it seems like there is a huge community of you guys that we don't know anything about.
I wouldn't call it huge, but its definitely growing. to see more find AoteaRollin' on vimeo.
Thats un-real!!! Three cheers for New-Zealand (maybe just one)
Paving the way(excuse the pun) to a longboarding future
rad ownin property n havin that in ya backyard.
Hey Speedy,
I take it you ride with Jestah. Did he ever finish his DH trucks. I haven't heard from him in yrs.
Good score btw getting rights to use the luge track. You will most definately be getting a visit from the aussie crew!
up my way there is one of those "pissweak world" type parks called the big buzz that in the 80's used to be a grass ski park (which also had 3 vert ramps which i basically spent every w/end on). Now they have these go kart type things with no engines which travel down these pretty steep windy rough as guts bitumen roards but there is a full on travellator type conveyor belt which takes you all the way to the top. I drive past pretty regulalrly and have imagined those crappy bitumen roads converted into pretty much exactly what is in that pic!! I think its the same owners as in the 80's, maybe given their previous history with skateboarding???????
yeah jestahs workin on something along that line, mostly just toiling away with carbon fibre and other stuff that only NASA woild have access to. Anyway, this track is as smooth as a fresh brazilian wax and located just north of Auckland in Silverdale, you can't see it on google earth cuz the image is too old. I'll post up some video once i get it pasted together
Paul if I were you I'd just go straight back haha. That looks amazing! How long's it been around?
the track's been running for about a year, but we just made the deal about a week ago. we're on a 3 month trial to prove to the owners that its a worth while project and that the riders can conduct themselves in a reasonable fashion. If you don't brake too much you have no trouble hitting 60+kph. Oh yeah, its got lights so we can ride till about 10pm.
this is what should be in centennial park

my cousin in NZ has told me the scene is sick and quiet vibrant ..... with many a run
