ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

so story is,

tonight we were having our carpark session, had a heap of runs, then boom seco jumps out at me from a corner, swings for my head (smart bloke obviously, hope my helmet hurt his hand) and connected with it. and No I did not swing back at him.

this was the first contact that we had with the security guards, now I'm pretty sure that all he is allowed to do is ask us to leave which we did, am I correct in assuming this?

you're going to make money out of this. YEW. fuckin security. take it to court for sure, would of been perfect if you got footage
DUUUUUUUUDE. get everyone you were skating with to be your witnesses. he will get powned!

mmmmmm let me think, NO, I will not be taking this to court.

the last thing this world needs is litigating skaters. I just want to reconfirm what I thought the rules are so I can be 100% sure of myself.

probably thought you were doing shit...

he tries anything again it's stacks on!

*like*

Phil,

if he connected, with no provication from yourself, other than just skating, then he's up for assault, simple as that.

Get your own back man. Fuck going to court. That's bad, bad, bad. There will be people who will be on his side if it goes that far and he can lie and say it wasn't like that unless you have proof.

I had the same thing with security in the maritime museum. Instead of calling the police or asking us NICELY not to skate they took matters into their own hands and tried to push me off my board as I was skating 'the loop' where the busses pull up outside. The guy tried to clothesline me and kinda did but not very well as I mainly copped hairy, sweaty fore-arm to the chops at 30km/h and stayed on. With my mouth slightly bleeding I then proceeded to skate rings around the guy. Every time he would try and kick my wheels or stick his arms out in a 'T' I would duck or move and laugh at his attempts. (It actually became quite fun, seeing if I could skate past him whilst he tried to kill me!) He was middle aged and fat and not very agile at all and was soon out of breath.

I abused him and tormented him for the next 10 minutes always just out of his reach. Finally he decides he's not going to get his fat fucking sausage hands on me he calls the cops. I waited for them to turn up and as soon as they did I skated away from the scene and went to another carpark. The initial anger I had from him trying to push me off turned into satisfaction because he became the angry, frustrated one. Maybe that's not the 'proper' way to handle things but it sure made me feel good.

Read the thread below - this made me laugh at work - good work!

I think skateboarding has become an easy target for attack. If it was someone on a bike would they get the same treatment? Its all to do with the media portrayal and skateboard culture. People blindly make rash accusations and go postal - its a media built reaction. Skateboarder's are people are they not?

Everyone carries phones with video these days - next time film it, post it, name and shame.

Thanks for the chuckle and hope your jaw is mended

luca - that's gold man.  very funny stuff.

going to court cos a security guard hit your helmeted head and caused no damage will unfortunately do you little good.  If he had broken your nose it might be a different story.

i'm afraid the last 20 years of street skating has not done longboarders who just want to cruise around any favors with security guards.  they lump us in the same category, ie you will destroy property, cause noise, and be obnoxious.

Quoted for truth, straight up don't take that shit, next time cunt punches you in the head hit the cunt with your board and peace out. This is skateboarding, take shit into your own hands, don't even try and sue you won't get anywhere with it.

Think about calling up the security company and asking them about how to register an official complaint (of course tell them why).  It has a lot of legal implications and it will cause a lot of stress for the guy who hit you (even if you dont follow it up).

Thinking back to run-ins that I had with rent-a-cops as a grom resulted in me just leaving the carpark, politely, and sessioning whenever we felt like at any other time than those times that we worked out when to expect the security guys to show up.

We also used to make a point of stopping the runs 1 or 2 levels above their hang-out, and as they had little interest in protecting an empty concrete car park, a long and breathless climb above them,  we were out of sight, and out of mind.

The worst thing to do was to piss them off. That was the 70's and 80's.

Now days when rent-a-cops show up, I generally go straight up to them, introduce ourselves and ask them politely if they would mind us having a roll.  50% of the time you are guaranteed to get a yes!  If they are actually rent-a-pigs you simply wish them well and leave, quietly and politely.

If you do get the yes, and if you are well organised, with a well stocked apre's skate esky, handing the guy six stubbies almost guarantees a gold pass! (unfortunately this move presents very high degree of difficulty for you Groms)

Another ploy is take someone along with a serious looking movie camera.  Then you flat out lie that you are part of a youth affairs show for ABC3 (why not down-load a logo, and stick it on a secondhand beta-max camera to really look the part)  Of course keeping a straight face will present a very high degree of difficulty for Groms, and old farts alike, and someone needs to bring the prop.  Of course in Sydney you lot could actually probably get a cadet Journo from Rush to attend a session.

Being fat old and slow has its advantages cause sometimes they think you could be their boss.  A trick to add to this is check the front of the building for the name of the managing agent.  Could be a firm like CBRE.  Look up their website for the "asset services" or "property management", get the name of the property manger for that building and drop it. Say something like "is {insert_name_of_Building_manager} getting you guys paid on time these days?"  They won't actually know that you don't know the manager, and but might think twice about getting heavy with you, besides everyone knows what it is like trying to get money out of a building owner!  Of course groms will have to say something like their dad knows {insert_name_of_manager} is a good guy/or lazy prick.  {the straight face is optional on this move}

As to whinging to the cops, or the security company about a little pat on your helmetted head....do that and you will create life long enemies, that will make recommendations to the building owners in relation to speed humps and the like to deal with what they will say is a plague of mouthy little vandals.

As to Skaters rights in relation to what is generally thought of as trespassing....have none of you worked it out yet......there are none!
