ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

hey guys for my year 12 dt major work im designing a downhill skatepark that could be built on existing land. i need your opinion of what needs to be included in the design. would you like a indoor area if a park was built? or would just a nice road and bbq facilities be fine?

i also need to show there is a need for this so the more people that reply the better :)
thanks Nick.

i thought u were making boards
you want a steep smooth straight road for sliding, and then a long one with heaps of corners!
There should be parts for begginers and better people, it would be cool if there was also a little alley thing like south van with early grabs and stuff.
the begginners can use the driveway...
make this thing steep as hell and gnarly as poo!!
:p
yer what happened to making boards
organise some heaters and a giant lid to be put on everest, then pave it, get loose with some gnarly DH action.
I'm thinking the closest thing to this that already exists is a grass-skiing/karting park, so it might be worth looking at the way they are set up for inspiration. Obviously for dh you would need paved runs and they'd probably need to be longer, but in most other ways it's the same concept.
Only in Australia do you need to do all that official land surveying crap. This is a map of one in Finland which is built on the side of an existing ski slope.

I will try and track down some photos of the whole thing.

I cant find a photo of the whole thing which is unfortunate but there is a video here of it if your interested. The track is meant for go carts in the summer but the fella there had no problems with skaters using it. We even hired it out for a whole day and used it for a time trial race.
Surveying crap?

Like... working out if the slope is stable enough to put a road on it?

We've got alot of rarely used bike tracks screaming for makeovers up here. Tim Skittles knows where they are and could prob pinpoint em on google. Please Tim...?
Council up here is aware of the ground swell and need for somewhere to tell us all to bugger off to - like they did when all the skate parks started popping up everywhere.
I got no skills when it comes to design but if I had something I could get a quote on...

View Larger Map This is the best I can get, it's right next to that water tank and the highway sign...
hopefully this works (cr cavendish/boundry: road it's greyed out and unnamed hidden in the forest)

but it is an awesome spot, and would work wonders as a dh park, even if it is rather short, still technical, with a crazy ass turn, and tight corners all the way though at good speeds.
