ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

hey bugs or whoever it is that runs ASRA, would you pretty please be able to set an option in the forum section, to "view all" so you can see it like it used to be, prior to a week or so ago.

don't mean to have a whine, and if its a bit of work to do, dont worry, cause i know you guys put enough time in to this site already, but it makes it easier to browse over and see what people are talking about without going through 5 links.

Like i said though, it would be nice, but if its an effort to go through the site programming or whatevs, dont worry :)

cheers. and good work starting a section for home grown brands :)

The problem with the old format is that people never click into categories, all anybody does is respond to the last 4 discussions. This creates a problem with people asking the same questions and creating duplicate discussions over and over that have already been asked and answered. This also means unanswered questions disappear very quickly deep into the category.

The other benefit we get from having a category view is we can now create sticky's with forum guidelines and other useful forum info that is always in view. The isuue with sticky's in the current form is they only sit inside the category which comes back to the first issue with users not ever looking in the category and only looking at the last 4 discussion on the main page

People may not be aware but you can easily change the view from 'view categories' to 'view discussions' on the forum page which shows the last 10 discussions in chronological order
i don't see an issue with the new layout. if you need to see something gear related, click on gear, if you want to talk about a session, click on sessions... if you want to have a general chat and see what people's latest opinions are, click on facebook
lol

Maybe you could put it back the way it was before and put the homegrown gear as stickies in the marketplace? Not sure if thats possible though

Those stickies would only be visible once you clicked through to the category, which is the behaviour that people are saying they want to avoid. So that's not really a solution.

The software that we are using for this site doesn't give us total flexibility to organise things exactly how we want - we have to choose from a set of limited options, each of which have pros and cons.
im for number 2 personally.
The home grown gear is a good ieda, but at the moment none of those companies have heaps of activity.

But to get it really going, here is the awesome idea noone has thought of :D
so have it the way it was, with one set of discussions relegated to a second page, but instead of picking one set to move back, have it in chronological reply order. i.e. if noone has replied to sites and sesh in a month it will be on the second page, then if someone replies in that section, the sites and sesh gets pushed up to number 1, and something else gets pushed to the second page. so people get to see what the latest replies are on everything, while being able to check out whats going on in each thing. dont know if this is possible, if not. then option two pleasee :)

Nice idea, but it's not possible with the software we use.
Jack we are unable to do categories in chrono order. Do you have any suggestions with regard to the issues we have raised? or do you just want it to go back as it was minus any further categories eg number 2. There are issues that make the forum very cumbersome, there are 2155 current discussions and very little that have any depth to them?

The idea behind creating a new category is to foster threads for Australian companies and skate manufacturers so that we can develop an innovative local industry that has a place to put out quality new gear and communicate or trade with our user base. We would like to have threads from:

Early
Glyde
Norfin
Fat Pigeon
Slippery Dip
Omni
FSU
Sakamoto
SBB
Sturge

and anybody else who has the guts to start creating a brand and a product themselves that may need a bit of help to get it out to the scene.

This category will be a locked category meaning nobody can start discussions or clog the category. We will move relevant discussions into this category but no user will be able to start a discussion so the only threads that will be there will be the threads of local brands we put there
Great idea! I'll start coding the new software tonight, should be ready by Newtons 2015

new format more interesting browse from fart perspective guys, maybe if it can be done, dont really know what your gibbering bout tech wise, but under each title if ya got a list of last 3 or 4 sub title comments, I,m having to think to hard now and nearlly saw Hal take over on the box late the other night, mix for max, Mark.
I just worked it out, much fart better than before, but I,m almost out the evilousion window maybe.
newtons 2015 robbo?
that quickly haha lol
yeah i thought it might be a bit tricky :-/
people will get used to this, i just personally preferred the old one. in regards to new discussions being created, i have some dieas, but they are things that owould require software changes :/ like, as you make a discussion and click create, ahve a popup box asking if you have tried the search function. but yeah, maybe have it like it was, but have two cents on a second page, not home grown stuff?

the new one isnt that bad though, just a bit of adjusting :)
