ok so next step is to show the rest of us haha...

did anyone get recordings of both reports?
Daredevils or not, the media sure didn't put a 'positive' spin on things suprise suprise
thanks for posting that up leadfoot!
Well it turns out the report tonight was pretty good. We talked heaps about safety and all that stuff but they didn't really put any of that on. Spewin. All in all though, i'd say it was good! So sick being on TV. haha. nice shot of you Bowditch.
once again... the media is out for the attack...
the only way a positive media story will be released about longboarding is if LONGBOARDERS themselves direct the production and have a say in the editing... what just happened then was a huge "lets back up our story even further" by asking for you side of the truth and then not showing your side but instead manipulating it...
i have a strong feeling you guys did go into detail about the safety precautions that longboarders take when bombin hills.... but did they mention any of that? didnt look like it... all it showed was a bunch of dudes bombin the hills with a very layed back attitude and not much care for if its legal or not...
lesson learned, never ever trust the media when they ask for 'your side of the story' because all they want is a few 'key words' to be said to back themselves up.
This is always going to happen unless we are the ones approaching the media saying "look buddy we have been taking alot of heat with this how bout we get things set straight" and actually become the director in making a new report, have a say in the editing suite about what comments go in and what footage is used and make a written agreement to not further destroy us by giving us an even worse reputation by saying we are "daredevils" and have "no concern for safety or the law"

but yeh bottom line is, never ever trust the media when it comes to skateboarders...
dont say i didnt warn u
ahahah IM A STAR!!! a god damn star. hahahhaha wooo bring on the bitches and cash baby!!!
the dardevils video was the first one, the second report is quite good actually and comes accross fairly positively. they even put a bit in about eagle. which could be bad . but meh well done willy group u did a good job.
WE NEED A MEDIA REPRESENTATIVE !!! ASRA ?
dude as far as news reports go and the public's eye goes, i think this interview went pretty damn bad... i know how we all can look at it and see the good side of it but to the public who has no idea about anything to do with longboarding they are just getting a confirmation from the first story that we are dangerous... it sucks i know but thats just the way the cookie crumbles... now this is out in the public you have to be very careful with what you post up on the net... you saw what happened to Matt Ryan from a video he posted up

yeah i do agree with u guys and can see the point u make, but i just think it went better than it could have. hopefully thats the end of it
On the bright side I have 4 sundays off work in January so will be over most of of them to give the sport a worse name :D
Done and dusted now and lets hope thats the end of it, most people would have forgotten about it by tomorrow. But i'll give you my view of this whole situation.

The media is the biggest tool that we can use to grow this sport and transform its "daredevil" image into one of profession athletes which is what we want ..right? but to do this we need to work "with it" instead of "against it". I know that the first story was a surprise to everyone and out of the blue and i think Benny and his crew did a good job to try and smooth things over in today's interview considering they still showed what they wanted to show. But the damage has already been done and it's another bad rap for gravity racing especially after A-drain a few weeks back and Matt Ryan prior to that. But you have to ask yourself

"why did it happen in the first place?"

Yeah willunga hill is a sick run we all know that but i don't call doing 70km/h down the main street of a town a "quiet, safe hill". It's easy to thrash a hill to the point where you find it very, very hard to ride it because residents and joe public get to the point where they say enoughs enough. They think its cool at first but then they just get annoyed and then the cops watch it like a hawk. . It happened to us years ago on one of the best hills we've got here and we haven't been able to ride it since.

There are sooooooo many good hills around Adelaide that can be ridden without pissing people off! You just have to get out there and find them. For instance, there are roads with no houses on them, have about 1 car every 1/2 hr go past, top speed of 100kh+ and about 2 - 3k long. I've been involved in gravity racing for 10 years now and driven through the hills more times than i care to think... and i still find new hills that i've missed!

After the success of Newtons there has never been a better time for gravity racing here in Oz and there are a lot of people that are working hard to put on races next year and help bring the sport into the mainstream, but money makes the world go round and unfortunately ASRA doesn't have a money tree that they can pick of $30k to hold an event whenever they feel like it. So to hold races we need sponsors and some with lots of $$$, but to get sponsors we need to come across as professional, dedicated and serious about what we do or else we're going to get treated like "kids on skateboards" "daredevils" and what ever else the news says we are.

Remember you don't know who is reading this forum and taking notes, obviously ch 10 reporters are but what about councils that are considering holding an event, police, potential sponsors?????

I think this should be a lesson for all of us in that we as a community need to band together and help ourselves by portraying a positive and professional image.

What do you think?
