ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

seems S9 have got there shit together and are bring out some stiff racing boards that you wont find at you local surf shop, well thats bullshit, every kid under the sun will have a new model soon, im guessing they dont come as completes and have no idea of prices. any way one of the tightest crews around now with matching boards , leathers and steeze.

i'm pretty sure the 42 and 40 race use the same mold as the old race decks, not sure about the others. They are also releasing the lundberg model which is like an avenger but better lol.

There race team are riding these now man :P
Really sick boards

Jack Nolan said:
really :S
they will still sell heaps, but everyone has been demanding the race decks that they give their riders :S
why make new moulds when they have a mold there they just arent mass producing. seems wierd to me.
but im probably ignorant in this area in one way or another :)

They are totally different. Nothing like the old ones

its about time s9 released their race boards to the public. They have got to be the suprise hype machinist, everyone has been getting stoked on the release of these since like 2007 on the fish :P
In all fairnnes they didn't 'start the scene', they cashed in on the idea that longboarding is like surfing on land, and in doing so I mean they really CASHED IN.They sell those flat, flexy pintails in surf shops for over $300, some pushing 400. That is, in some part, the surf shop, but Billabong is flexing its brand muscle on those surf shops so that in some cases they only sell Billabong boards. Yes they get people into longboarding, but thats just what they want, no-one who already longboards is going to buy one of those surfy brah boards, unless they want it as a cruiser etc.

the 'longbaorders' S9 I have no problem with, to me they seem an almost separate entity from Billabong, and are making some nice boards

fair enough, but they did start up the scene, and i stand by my point about getting people in to longboarding
theres a lot of people here who got no idea how much they are crapping on...

S9 got new boards coming, epic as fuck. go get yourself a new rig and be stoked. dont like it then go away
Sector9 has the cheapest decent quality boards available, given that the race scene is tiny compared with the general longboard cruiser scene I think they have done a hell of a lot for getting non-skaters and people off double kicks and onto longboards. Remember that Sector 9 was not always owned by Billabong, they were the first company doing anything mainstream and mass market for longboarding and probably deserve to cash in.

Its retailers like skateboard express and rebel sport that fuck over brands by putting out cheap crap along with Z-flex that also puts out skateboard express style junk completes. Now we have a generation that thinks that $200-$330 for a longboard complete of good quality is a ripoff. These are the same people that would buy overseas to save $40 rather than support any local shops.

As far as selling these things in surf shops, the company that owns Sector9 also owns most of the surf shops they are sold in so what else would you expect. They are surf shops, they don't claim to be skate shops and are not likely to become skate shops so they are not going to stock gear for the serious downhiller or any real range of skate brands. The fact they are just selling the brand they own would seem a normal business decision.
I've got nothing against the boards, I could see myself buying one, its the bussiness practice that gets to me. I used to work in a surf shop (not a chain, just a small operator, sold clothes mainly), and was openly told that the only boards they were allowed stock were S9 under their stock arrangement. They still did (I think they had Globe or something) but its the idea that Billabong, arguably the strongest brand of apparel could bully a small shop into selling their Boards solely, in return for stocking their clothes. I think Dave K's had a similar experience....

BTW the shop wasn't owned by Billabong, it was owned by the manager

The Ervan model looks nice
surf shop bro.... its not a skate shop.

skate shops wouldnt do that, i think people should be stoked that longboard and skateboards are even in shops

well surf shops are now kinda clothes shops... haha

kids would come in with their parents looking for clothes and go "aww cool", and end up walking away with a $300 complete. So long as they've got their feet on a longboard they're stoked, and I guess in the long run it can only be a good thing

and I guess that means S9's got more money for R&D, so hopefully we'll see some more of these boards to come ;)

what is it with all the HATERS fullstop, fuck me we are all here to skate yeah. whilst im on the topic, sector9 organises fuckloads of local events in the states so people have no excuse.
oo the first one looks nice

really nice
its probably a good and a bad thing that billabong bought S9. bad thing is that now theres guys who cruise around giving comments like nice helmet faggot and stuff like that. good thing is billabong gave S9 the funds they needed for the development of their race boards and wheels. the way i see it is billabong is making the flexy cruisers and S9 making the race decks.

4th and bottom one look good enough for me
the problem to me with S9 is miseducation. i work in a surf shop, and frequently have people have surfy brah guys telling me they've been 80k on their flexy cruiser (they're lying), because they think S9 longboard=bomb hills. not so. i get guys telling me they straightline bomb hills on their ala moana with sidewinders on? hmmm. i've been at spots where i'm wearing helmet gloves n pads, n had surfy brahs rock up n skate their S9 no shoes, no safety, n standing right on the back trucks.hmmm.
as S9 and longboarding gets more popular, i can see a lot of the guys with no idea getting hurt.
i know a S9 rep who's brother nearly killed himself (head injuries, internal bleeding, lots'o' hospital) on his S9
i had a 13 yr old kid in the shop the other day who broke his collarbone, dislocated his shoulder and took a heap of skin off on his S9 mini cruiser trying to bomb a hill because thats what he thought S9's were for. we had a chat, and i explained to him otherwise.
i guess i see S9(billabong) promote longboarding to the mainstream, but not so much how to do it safely.
Agreed
