ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

we all wear them, or we all should atleast.

wait pause, first off this thread aint a rant about how something bad that happened and why you should all wear a helmet forever as of now.

anyways, i want to buy the 9two5 for sale down the page, mum has decided because i told her it was a freeride/speedboard *facepalm* she wants me to get safety gear better than old roller blading pads, handmade gardening gloves with cutting board glued on and a kmart helmet from when i was 9 thats still to big.

gloves im probs going loaded race.
pads will probably be 187 fly knee's (thanks robbo :D )

helmet i have no clue. i dont want a fullface but i dont know what type to get, like are they all pretty much the same or are there varying levels?
so far triple 8 and protec look pretty cool. so what would you reccomend for a skid lid.

thanks. oh and dont mention fullfaces please, i dont want this thread to be an argument about paragliding vs motorbike vs motorcross vs aero lids please.

Thanks.

triple 8 or early noodles. I got a noodles off voodoo for 65$ i think. its works well
DO NOT GET A PROTEC.

yeh. you can bend the frame with your fingers.

Get a triple 8 sweatsaver. They seem to be the most popular, and seem to be a lot safer then the protecs.

Get 187 Pads, they work great.

I know you said not to mention Full faces, but If you want to get one, just go to Wiggle.co.uk and look for good cheap 661's. I like my teeth and jaw.
ohk, if i do get a fullface they have really good $120 ones off hopkin so ill probably get that, this pretty much settles it, ill go with triple 8. thats the only helmet other than protec on hopkin and boardshop anyways. thanks guys.
The issue I have with the triple8's that I have seen is the fact that they have no expanded foam liner, just big squidgy bits of foam between your head and the outer shell. Having no foam liner means less energy absorption by the helmet and more by your skull when you hit the ground with your head (somewhat reducing the point of waring a helmet in the first place). Triple8 may make one with this liner but I haven't seen any in my local shops. So what I would say is look for one with the expanded styrene foam liner. Pretty sure protec make these. Also I may sound like your mum here but try and get an australian standard aproved one.
A mate of ours came off a board at about 60kph in a Protec Classic Skate (the one with the "squidgy foam") and bounced down the road on his head. He weighs about 130kg and walked away and kept riding. I like the Protecs a lot. If you want to go Aussie, get an X-Rated!!!!!!!!!
i got a tsg bucket and really happy with it. 100 bucks, so a little more than some of the others but feels very safe.
yea man i have crashed in my 888 and slammed my head real hard on a footpath... my hands hurt more from slapping the ground with my gloves (it was an intense footpath)
X rated :) Creativesk8 ! strong ,3 styles , heaps of colors buy australian !
I know you said not to, but:
I know its hopkin and all, but i wouldnt suggest the r'jays $120 one, it is: heavy and has average vision.
I have a pro-tec, and would get one over a tripple 8 because of the extra layers of foam..
as for pads, 187's are the go!
