well you dont see too much of them cause the dont have as much grip railing corners as zigs or tangs but they are faster so just depends on what hill you r ridding...there were heaps of guys running them at the gravyard call last year cause there was alot of slidding and speedchecking on that track...the tangs were rad there too but yeah they wear out pretty quick and you can smash a set in 1 run...such a smooth slide though just gotta sponoed or rich to race em...zigs are one of the most durrable wheels out there steve has been slidding a set for months and they still going they dont slide as smooth straight out of the box but they grip back in realy well...but hey you can take the edge of those in one run aswell so it all depends on how you ride em and what track....
first thing your gonna need if you wanna race this year is a plane ticket... just get a few sets of everything and try em out. different terrains and different style of race tracks call for different wheels, and there is no way to tell which sets of wheels work for YOU untill you try them, and then try them on different roads. I always use purple 4pres when im riding my local hills and stocked up heaps for europe last year then when i got there realized my hills have grippy roads and the purps were like riding on ice! its all comes down to experience so at your entry level just get whatever and try em all out.
And what sort of 'lack in the racing scene' have you noticed about the flywheels? is that coz you didnt see them on youtube or something? lots of people use them and i think they are a fantastic wheel, only reason why i wouldnt ride them is coz im sponsored by another company. you will be ineterested in the things people are actually riding on when you start to hit the races, and your views on equipment will change dramatically, people are being brought up in a silverfish environment when it comes to skating gear
yeah ellery nice to see your keen to race im not sure what level of ridding your at but the only advise i can give to you is to be ready...remember this is a pro world cup circut and ive seen so many guys spend thousads of dollars to head over when they aint ready and dont even qualify..get up to sydney and ride with the fast guys there, see where your at or even head up here to the goldie..you have australia's best downhill skaters on the east coast of oz just a drive or short plane ride away..
or if your just up for a rad adventure ridding the hairpins of europe then grab a ticket and head over mate...
ohh and martin has won 3 world titlles and last years euro champs on flywheels plus endless other victories so we know they are a sick wheel...goodluck
if the scene is too small and few why are there secret spots? doesnt seem fair to me... remember victoria is home to Australian's alpine terrain...
i think thats kinda sad, they obviously have a small crew and are always trying to 'push and expand' the scene, but how do you do that if you dont let people come skate your hills? we always encourage new people to come skate, chances of hills getting 'overcrowded' are slim to none, that only happens when you have people skaing them nearly EVERY weekend and causing trouble and riding all over the place... smack em in the head and say oi lemme come skate you pricks show me the gnarliest hills you got i wanna be a downhill racer you guys are gay for not sharing
