ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Welcome to the launch of the perpetual ASRA Downhill Rankings. 2010 has seen an explosion of downhill races throughout Australia, so from this moment on we're going to start collating the results and officially ranking all downhill riders in Australia.

We will start the rankings from January 1, 2011, which means the winner of the first race next year will become the No. 1 ranked rider in Australia, at least for a little while. Subsequent races will be added, and once 12 months have passed we will start removing older results to ensure that only a rider's pervious 12 months results are included.

Which races are included?

There are four categories of races that will be included:

  1. IGSA World Cup in Australia - ie, Newton's Nation.
  2. IGSA/ASRA Australian Nationals - the IGSA limits these to one per year, and ASRA is currently in negotiations for an ASRA/IGSA Nationals in 2011.
  3. Australian Regionals - includes all legit (non-outlaw) downhill races in Australia
  4. Outlaws - the more people that attend your event, the more ranking points they are worth.

Only downhill races are included - no push races, carpark races, ditch races or slalom races.

Which people are included?

We'll collate rankings for:

I'm organising a race, and I want it to be included in the rankings. What do I do?

Do these things:

  1. Create a public event for your race on this website at least one month in advance.
  2. Run the race. There must be a minimum of 16 racers for skateboard races and 8 for luge races.
  3. Within one week of the end of the race, post the results on the Event page, along with a Podium Picture, and a short report on the event.
    The results must include:
  • Racer's first name (no nicknames!)
  • Racer's last name (no nicknames!)
  • Racer's date of birth
  • Racer's place in race.

4 Send the results to asra@skateboardracing.org.au

We encourage you to use the results spreadsheet when you send us your results.

Note: ASRA reserve the right to exclude a race for any reason. Significant doubts over the credibility/fairness of the results would necessitate excluding a race.

There are skateboard races and there are luge races, and some events will have both and some won't. If you're having a skateboard race you need a minimum of 16, and if you're having a luge race you need a minimum of 8. There's nothing to indicate that an event must have both for it to be included.

That's good to know!

Hi Bugs,

I am after a confirmed list of events that will include luge so I can organise time off. I have only seen the Newtons nation on the list above. Have you guys got anything else sorted yet, just I need to give 30days notice and need to work around the seasonal work up this way. Cheers,

Shane, I have no listing of events other than what you see on the Events page. I know there are others planned, but they probably won't be listed until there's a date and location locked in.

The 2011 IGSA races have been added to the Events page up until September 2...just gotta add the last few.

Thanks Bugs

So ASRA are not organising any events other than Newtons?

The other races so far are only what is being organised by the people/groups around Australia?

Shane the intention here is a set of perpetual rankings. The ranking system is not a race series but rather a way of including any races that occur around the country to formulate an overall national ranking. This does not determine a National Champion (an individual race will do that) but it determines who is the current number one ranked rider in the country at any particular time. An individual race series or any number of race series including an accumulation of individual events can be included to formulate your national ranking. This is to encourage events both big and small that may or may not include in their own series but are given relevance with a certain weighting in the national rankings.

ASRA directly administers the World Cup, some slalom races and some smaller outlaw downhill races. ASRA then provides logistical support, timing gear and generally ourselves to other members that run their own events. Generally speaking National sporting bodies don't usually run events outside of the National titles, This is the case in Australia because most national bodies are run by volunteers and are not financially able to provide that much man power full-time. They rely on their members to run there own events with the national bodies support. We do have some bigger Pro events in the pipeline but are unable to announce these until final approval in made. Its very hard to get across to people how much work is involved in running a big professional event, there is only so many of these that 5 guys that volunteer their time can do. For mid-tier events we need the rest of our members to step upto the plate
