I do have to agree with the helmet thing, maybe not a full face but something atleast. you can do serious damage hitting your head even by falling while walking down the street. 30 KS is still pretty fast on a piece of wood with wheels. I agree with you about the gloves and pads though Nicko, probably not neccesary. I think we all have to remember that even if it's a chill session, especially with all this recent media attention on luging and downhill skating we are now in the public eye and helmets are certainly smiled upon. helmets are ALWAYS a good idea, be it 30k's or 100k's.... (especially 100k's)
it only takes one tiny little slip up to have a slight fall and hit your head... sure enough your having a chill session and dont think its nessecary but when you really think about it, your having a photography session as well, which you are then going to post up around ASRA and show off your skills which is sick, but then people see them and first thing they say is "hmm no helmets no gloves... not impressed..."
I know you wear your safety gear man thats awesome but you should always get in the habbit of just whacking on a lid... who cares if you dont look cool, you will sure wont look cool if you got a bit scar on your noggin, or worse...
and trust me, it DOES happen, even when your rolling at walking speed... helmets are always necessary and that matter can never be argued...
