just curious but why go a drop on a luge... i thought topmount was the shiz due to the traction and leverage over your trucks or does this just go for standup???
"Turning leverage" is differant between luge and stand-up. Due to height, you get better leverage to turn in stand-up, whereas with luge you have to "flat turn", and by having your weight bulk closer to the axle height your able to achieve this. Most lugers will learn on a Classic luge first, as it's a good teacher of technique to turn in the "supine" position..laying down. If you ride a Classic well, you'll certainly be able to ride a luge. Having your weight "above" the axle is not as stable as having your weight at the axle height......therefore a "dropped" deck is more stable, but harder to turn, in the context of Classic and luge.
First Luge I rode was Nick Duffields Roger Bros. It had a neat shape in the pan that was like a saddle. Your arse sat in it and it made all the difference.
This board uses the drop to help create this saddle seating position too.
The rise makes it easier to keep your legs up and makes a great seat.
I like the 3 inch drrop in this shape for that reason,.... not really the same as a drop for standup skating.
