It already does
Not that simple really. If your also motivated to actually put a race on then you can also benefit from that too.
More races more chance to get more skills & racing experience. Not always a case of motivation, or lack of, can stop you getting to races, It can get expensive trying to get to them as well.
So Bugs, why can't the rankings table for slalom just show our top 6 races like the Downhill ?
Wouldn't that give a clearer picture overall. Not that many people get to 6 races a year anyway.
will review the results that I sent you.
indeed bugs, if you not motivated to travel to race it ain't goner happen , simple as that really...
I disagree Bernie (with regard to Slalom)
I am more inclined to travel to an event that i know is going to have good numbers and be a real competition rather than a social gathering of locals. I cant travel to Sydney or Melbourne for 5 or 6 races a year but if their was one main race I would do my best to be there.
The cone head cup attracted large numbers to all races and was fairly spaced throughout the year.
I still dont see why the old system for Slalom had to be ditched.
I think it's a good call too Bugs.
Can we do this for the slalom rankings too ?
Why not have a continuose ranking system but in addition you have a select premium number of races that count to a Specific comp like slalom had with the cone head cup (Hopkin Cup!). You could run the cup similar dropping lowest results.
Seems to be plenty of premium races to choice from for the Cup. Most states now have at least one race that attracts the top riders.
Races would obviously need to be loosly scheduled for the upcomming years comp so riders can plan their years must do races.
This should encourage bigger events with better organisation that people will travel to while smaller event will still remain attractive on a local scale for all the people coming into the sport and for everyone to join in because we do this to get stoked and not just for a ranking.
so you're saying that Benbro, Kam were at number 1 spots because of their attendance and not their skill level?
the before and after barely changed anyone dramatically, plus there is no end of year champ to be winning by attendance... its a perpetual system, you have to keep attending regardless so why not let the rankings encourage more races and travelling as appose to finding the best rider in Aus (which it has anyway)...
not all the people who win races can actually get to all the races. sure having a full ranking system would entice people to travel and get to all the races, but at the end of the year you have som kook who is kinda average getting a high spot, when the people who are litterally better than them sit lower in the rankings because they dont have the money to travel to each and every race. This system better reflects the actual ranking of the riders' skill level.
being able to have 'throw away races' is a good thing i reckon. Only having the best scores count makes it more important to do good at each and every race, instead of winning by attendance
if the purpose of the rankings was to attract riders to your race and encourage riders to travel to races, then using the top 6 races seems kinda counter productive... If you blow a race in the old system, a bad result was still a lot better than no result. I think people will definitely sit back and choose their races to attend more vigilantly now.
Perhaps instead you could of tweaked the points system.
Maybe based on prize money instead of number of riders. Would encourage better races and give the top guys something to aim for rather than a perpetual number 1 spot..?
Yeah also James K and Cat we'rent at the race at all...
hey bugs for the secret canberra race number one i am not in it for some reason and i made finals aswell and mr musemeci is in twice !!
I like it, and not just because I went up a place, being able to have a bad race and not have it affect you too badly is a nice thing.
All voices have been in favour, so I've gone ahead and done it. The change in people's rankings is surprisingly small, and (with no disrespect to the people who've dropped down a place or two) I think it looks more accurate.
so the change is official, just noticed the changes to the points
