Most of us lugers don't expect to win either, epic hills closed to traffic for 3 days, how much more incentive do we want, come on lugers get amongst it!

Dani, I disagree.  I think every one who competes imagines winning the event and getting the money that goes along with it.  If money weren't an incentive for people in every day life and in many aspirations then we wouldn't have sports stars making 7 figure incomes, lawyers suing corporations for millions and politicians taking every bribe they can get.  I believe your "we do it for the love of the sport and not the money" generalization is a bit of a fantasy; yes, we all do it because we love it (why would you do something you didn't love), but I would venture to say that most people who enter large purse races do it for more than just the love of the sport; even this series touts itself as the "richest leg in the IGSA World Cup".  I think the actions of the ASRA and the promotion of this event conflict with your opinion.  Also, one of your previous comments about taking 40% from the lugers and putting it towards longboarders shows your true colours, that is of a selfish human being.

It looks like Fitz independently confirmed what I said regarding Serek, to even a greater degree.

Again, I would like to stress: the issue isn't that luge needs more money.  But the non-division of assets between the two luge classes seems disconcerting and is likely the reason for the low turn-out.

Lance and Josh: love the stoke, I will enjoy competing with you.

Money is an incentive for a small few. Of all the people competing in stand up there are maybe 10 people who would be expecting any prize money. I think we know who those 10 are, they are the worlds best. The other 70 people are well aware that their chances of winning are next to none and I very much doubt they are going for the cash. For those that ''know'' they will win or have a damn good chance like Jacko, scoot, Mischo and the rest of em then cash is rad, but not the sole purpose of racing. No prize money in Europe but the races still fill every time

For the record:

The very first Newtons Playground, Serek initially showed alot of interest coming and competing. After the prize purse was announced he pulled out. Not enough in it for Buttboard alone. Plus he has never come out since which reflect the prize purses on offer each year after.

Lets not bullshit ourselves here. Prize money is a big part of why people want to come out to compete. Otherwise why else would the prizes increase from last year. There is alot of stoke riding and of course boasting rights to saying you're Champ but lets face it, winners want cash. I don't see any of the winner saying "No thanks, you can keep the cash. I'm happy paying thousands to fly over here and ride for stoke. In fact I'm coming back again next month to ride your missus!"

It is a shame that every class can't reap the spoils of mega booty in prize dosh.

Hopefully with the growth of all the sports we will see more cash injection from corporate sponsorship etc.

I m too fucking stoked to be riding a new hill and my first real race on a luge to give a flying fuck what being said on here , I am coming down with my son and were going to try to kick ass and take some prisoners...so get practicing everyone and spend your time spreading stoke not horse shit....ps call me anything you like by the way cause i dont give a shit...and you will get your chance to say it to my face :)

I don't have time tonight for an extended reply. However I would like to make it known that I am registered for both street luge and classic luge (regardless to prizes); I have also formally offered money out of my own pocket for prizes towards inline skate, a class which has also not been allotted any prizes, in which I will not be competing.

not sure what the pool has been for luge internationally but I imagine its not huge either.,
