Overseas skateboard e-tailers and retailers don't put on races; they don't sponsor local riders.....hell, sometimes they even send their factory seconds with dodgy components claiming it is the real McCoy. Supporting local skateshops is investing in your sport, and investing in Australia.
A little something I penned....for your consideration.

I'd just like to share a story from my latest experience with an Aussie retailer. I recently purchased an item from Hopkin. There was nothing wrong with it, though for other reasons, I realised that it wouldn't suit me and my board (note: I did not use the item). I contacted Hopkin who said that I could return the item, no trouble. When I returned it, I was not only offered store credit, but a full refund of the amount paid.
It is customer service like this that comes from supporting your local skate shop. You could never get this from an overseas retailer, and even if you were offered such a discretionary option to return, you would still be slapped with a large shipping fee. Make sure you support the companies that put on a shop front - the customer service is well worth the few dollars you may save from buying online
