ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

So me Rob and Luca went exploring for new hill yesterday coz we got booted from Mt Keirra and we found this pretty sick hill. It was pissing down so we were forced into the quieter areas to stay safe while skating winding tracks. The hill we found has a good bit of distance and is fairly straight with a slight few bends here and there, and right at the end there is a right hand sweeper followed by a long left sweeper into this tight right-left chicane and drops off into a flat. Top speeds can be possibly around the 80 mark, we were hitting high 60s in the pouring rain with rain wheels on, and coming into the last section at around 60k's. There is a big open area at the bottom of the hill with grass and right next to a creek to set up marshaling areas, marquees and tents and what not and just a place to be able to chill out on. There are also a few u-turn spots on the hill to spectate from.
Now i know this is extremely short notice but i rekon it would be cool to do this before the crew heads off to europe, that last bit of practice of race scenarios before heading out to take on the big boys, so maybe in like 2 or 3 weeks. I can understand if thats too short notice to book tickets or if people just dont have the money then we can host it later on down the track. But if there is enough interest i think we could have a pretty fun outlaw race here that could cater for people of all skill levels. The surface is butter smooth and its way out of the way of any normal traffic, so closing the road intermittently for heats and practice runs should be a piece of piss. Theres also a few other sections of road for back-up hills just in case we do get booted.

If this is going to happen we should start getting things organized now, get the numbers sorted out (max 32 riders to make things easier... if we can get 32...hopefully) and start getting things ready. You can make it a weekend and stay in wollongong and skate Mt Keirra and all the other rad wollongong hills in the area, and sydney airport is only an hours drive away.

Whos keen?

Super keen but no money....later!? Looks like a sick hill...
october sounds sweet! definately in for that!
the hill is pretty fun, its definately not gnarly, but its good in a sense that everybody can race on it. Now theres a difference between just riding the hill and racing it. Because its mainly straight with only a few bends in it (untill the bottom few corners) there would be lots of drafting and play catch-up, which would mix things up for people beginners to advanced. As long as you can ride a skateboard and tuck you would have no problems racing this hill. But then again when you get to the finals and you get to the best riders of the day it will be a battle to get to the bottom first and negotiate the last few corners side by side...
October sounds like a good time for me, I reckon im in.
What's the weekend traffic situation like you think? The roads in Royal National park get pretty busy on the weekends.
A double header with downhill and slalom would be sick.
well if we have it in october then theres time to talk to council and get it sanctioned... get permission to close the road for 10 mins at a time to let some heats go down then open it up. Or just have it closed for a few hours on one day... they close that road every now n then for the sydney-wollongong bike race or something gay like that
hehe, bikes
That road is hectic for traffic on weekends. Tourist motorbikers mecca.
well if we can get it sanctioned and get a road closure then a monday outlaw it is...
Yea, c'mon ASRA. Isnt this what you guys do?
i mean if we CAN'T get it sanctioned then a monday it is...

that was a typo
bro cash is super tight at the moment leading up to euro so id have to vote for october aswell...id love to get in some race time before hand but the funds just wont let me....
