ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

I would like to know when you guys and gals don the whole hog?

I mean leathers and helmet.

As a rule of thumb, under what conditions do you break out the leathers and helmet?

What speed would you be going over?

Do you only wear your helmet when you wear your leathers or do you think of them as separate items and wear one without the other?

I would like your thoughts.

the leathers come out in a race... the helmet stays on my head at all times, even when im not skain

I should have clarified that I ment full face helmet. Not a skate lid.

I've heard that you look more attractive with it on. Is that the reason? :)

leathers protect you well but they're a pain in the ass, heavy, hot, uncomfortable, take up alot of room in the boot, unless their custom fitted they can look pretty kooky. i wear em when it's not to much of an inconvenience and i think there is a good chance of me coming off. not so much about speed, more about the gnar factor. everyone here always wears their helmet, i sleep with my full-face on.

anything over 40km/h i throw on my fullface, even on some slide sessions

teeth are expensive...

i pretty much only wear leathers at races or when hitting a 90kph+ hill, wich is rare,as we have to travel for this.

but we all wore leather for a long time until we became confident riders, and gained the experience to be able to skate hills without falling off....much!

if its a situation were we are goin to ride tight[close],eg.racing,i will always wear a fullface,..

if your just starting out riding down hills, wear leather.....not cruising your hood or sessioning estates or corners,i mean bombing hills...50kplus....ask tom,he has just started bombimg hills and he has been glad he has been wearing leather everytime

for sure, if i wasn't wearing leathers at keira on the weekend i'd be in a world of pain, walked away without a scratch or a bruise. i generally get the fullface out when the leathers come out.

If it is a road over 50km/h and there is a good chance of something going wrong (water on the road, rough surface etc.) then the full face come on, as well as knee pads,

I don't own leathers, but would have sure wanted some when going up to speeds of 70 and 80k's, haven't fallen off at that speed, don't plan to, but plan to get some leathers for that speed and gnar!

Close and fast racing... Leathers is a must.

Close and mild racing... full face and pads is a must

and for close but easy racing... skid lid and pads!

i do own a set of draggin jeans and wear these every time i go for a fast downhill session, also even when i freeride my local hood. i do not need to wear leathers any more because i own a set of draggins. If IGSA allowed me to race in draggins i would
